The concrete finishers came back at 6:30 with one of those large, rotary concrete finishing machines. So they are hard at it. Hopefully they will/can finish before dark, but just in case, I turned all the outside lights on for them.

I would have been scared to death if those finishers disappeared. Glad they showed up again. It looks good.

Unfortunately Carol, they were not here when I took those pictures. Sometimes we have to not only hope, we have to trust that everything will turn out OK.

Too often we forget how hard some of these guy/girls labor to complete a task. OK, I have never seen a women do what these guys do. At the end of the afternoon, the "main" concrete finisher was just dead in the water. I could see it in his motions and see it in his eyes that he was all used up. When the crew came back at 6:30, he was again the guy that carried the load. He operated that huge, gas-powered concrete finishing machine. He should sleep well at night. He is one exhausted guy.

Please don't tell me there are no "Americans" that will do hard labor.

Kathy, I sure hope your fine, new greenhouse won't end up being as complicated as this one is shaping up to be.

The concrete finishers are back at work today. There are four of them, tweaking and leveling the concrete adjacent to the brick walls and to that long trench-drain. Once they are finished the "real" work can start - columns, beam, ceiling, lighting, fans, tile........well, you get the idea. We have a lot to do and I did not even mention the Florian glass structure. Whistling

All the framing has been removed, some tweaking of the concrete adjacent to the channel drain was done with a diamond-impregnated grinder, and I have just hosed it all off. One view shows the channel/trench drain without its grate and another with the grate in place. The sunroom's flooring will be porcelain tile. A step-down onto the extended patio is 18" beyond that drain. The structure's 32' long glass wall will sit adjacent to the step-down. There will be a brick wall on the left side and another glass wall on the right side.

Deco, huh. When I was researching what I wanted to use, I saw "Deck-O-Drains". Those I saw were one-piece, channel + grate, cut-to-fit units. I went with a commercial unit and the grates are only 2' long but are 4" wide. I have 15 grates. If one should break, it is easy to replace. These grates are so thick and heavy, I cannot imagine breaking one, but just in case I dropped a heavy clay pot on one, or some other mishap occurred, I wanted to be covered. I put the channel drain in for two reasons. I can literally wash down the entire room with a hose if I want to. Since I will have two large windows and a screened door, and they will be open on nice days/nights, if it should rain and "flood" into the room, the drain will easily carry the volume of water out into the yard.

So only morning sun. Wish I could get some of that, but in winter I at least get that from the south. My Orchid shack is a lean to built against a ten ft. block wall, so early morning sun is blocked, when we actually have morning sun. Usually our "marine layer" hangs around until at least 10am. Then we get the full western sun in the afternoon. Not the best environment for orchids, or any other plants.

I have that drain in my new walk in shower. They call them "Infinity Drains" or "Linear Drains" for inside your home and come in two sizes/capacities. Thumb of 2015-09-05/ShadyGreenThumb/3647bc

That does look like mine except it appears that the grate you have is one piece. I like the idea that every 2' section of grating can be removed if/when necessary. I can already see that I will take a grate or two off every so often, and wash out the entire 30' length with my power-nozzle.

You can never have too big of a drain that is for sure!

One barn I boarded at had the most awesome drains. The owner had boarded where the drains always clogged so she put extra large ones in.
