This is a study in Anticpation and Frustration.
Remember these? Pics posted earlier in this thread.
The bud looked great on July 11th, fell off on July 12th. I dissected to see color and verify it was, in fact, a double flower. This was from seed ordered from KO Adenium in Taiwan, the parent being a single Red/Black, so getting a double was a huge surprise. Not to mention this is my first double Adenium.
Obviously, I was eagerly anticipating the second bud developing.
Here is the second bud on July 26th:
Oh, the frustration.
So, for bud #3, I moved the plant up to the house where my mature Adeniums live. It would get a bit more sun, and maybe more fresh air to help dry the buds/leaves after a rain, in case that was the problem.
Here is bud 3 on July 29th:
A bird or something had bitten off the outer half of the bud.
The bud died.
So, now I am waiting for buds 4 & 5, photographed two days ago. Looking good so far, starting to open. These are HUGE buds:
I worked a 12-hour day yesterday, so was anxious to get home and see. Really starting to unfurl, but a long way yet to go. Maybe today.
Of course, I'll be out of town all day today. Since the rain yesterday afternoon was causing the buds to sag a bit, I will move the plant under cover before I leave. It won't get any direct sun, but I don't want these double blooms to fill with water.
I'll post pics if/when they finally open!
