Jimminy Crickets! Blinking Looks like we're going to have to batten down the hatches yet again. A tropical depression is forecasted to become a tropical cyclone next week, and headed toward us. My poor adeniums and vegetables. Sad Adeniums are in containers so I can shelter them under their platform, but not the vegetables. Crying

My prayers for you! I've been in so many hurricanes' eyes that I can't count them all! I'll keep a watch, if that helps. Maybe you can flatten your veggies and put a tarp on top of them, with cement blocks? Just a thought, what I would do----

Thank you all for your caring words. In August 2002 we had a super typhoon packing 175+ mph winds that hit us directly, causing a tremendous amount of damage. Then nothing until just last March 16, when we got hit—luckily winds were only 65 mph and no damages. Another one, packing 175+ that was forecasted to hit us April 1 veered away (whew!). Three weeks ago, yet another typhoon, but it weakened and fizzled out. Now this one! Blinking These activities are so unusual for this time of year. Here’s a picture of my plants in hiding March 16.

You definitely have the right conditions and abilities, Kadie with growing these.
Such wonderful growth and blooming for young plants. Should try some of Rinoa's or Ko's seeds. I bet you would get some marvelous blooms and fairly early.

I would concider anything after it's first or second year, as an adult.

Looks like you'll get some wind Thursday, yes, fizzle you storm! They are no fun.

Good question about age of adeniums. I've been trying to make up my mind about this for a while now. So far, it's---

1. newborn Two little 'leaves' which are not really leaves, the cotyledons. like a bean sprout, the 'bean' things that flap out, ??? I'm having a goofy day.

2. baby, when first true leaves appear.

then I'm kind of stuck, they just grow leaves and stems for several months, five minimum.

3. first bloom, adolescence? -- still a scrawny little stick with some leaves and flowers at the top. But they can make seed pods the first time they bloom. As with humans and other critters, better to let them mature some more.

4. second bloom, they can change some when they bloom again!

5. three years old, full adult. ??? I got this from a nurseryman in India. He grows huge caudexed plants by three years, by putting young ones in five gallon pots. By huge caudex, I mean one weighing twenty pounds or more. He says that's about the maximum they grow quickly.

I'll go pose this subject to the experts in the Yahoo group.

I just submitted a story about this 25-year-old adenium.
Here's a sneak peek.

Admin did say it may take awhile.

Anyway, here's my 4th seedling bloom.

I have several more buds taking time to bloom--they're not all pink.
