Sorry for you Loss Leslie, you sure have had lots of bad luck with your cats recently. I think you should get one from a line with known longevity. You deserve one that has a nice long life now. Group hug

Sorry to hear about Mulder, Leslie. Crying I know what it's like to lose a pet.

Scully will probably take it pretty hard. When my cat died (age eighteen and a half), her daughter (about 18 months younger than her) went downhill pretty quickly and died 6 months later.

I thought it would be a good thing to do rescue kitties, but am finding out from the vet and others that ferals often have much shorter life spans. In this case Mulder had congenital kidney issues. I hope to heavens that Scully, with her malformed kidney, continues to thrive. My first two cats both lived to 20, so this is a bit of shock to the system.

Thank you all for your kind words. Group hug Smiling

I agree. That Palomino Pony is a cute thing too. Why are these people all tempting us so soon????

We've had male cats with kidney problems in the past - but read somewhere that an all kibble diet was hard on the males' kidneys. We make at least half the cats' diets raw or partially cooked meat and offer lots of water now. My beloved girl cats, Zoe and Loca, lived to 16, as did our male, Houdini. They had a high-quality, mainly kibble diet - the difference being that they all caught mice or rats - and also ate much of the innards and bones. Because I don't allow our recently acquired kittens to go out at night, they're not catching any rodents, so I'm replacing the vital minerals and taurine that they would ordinarily get through eating live kills with freshly ground chicken parts and bones run through a meat grinder. I'm hoping that the added cost and work grinding every week or so, will be offset by
savings on vet bills.

Sorry for your loss, Leslie. Group hug

Leslie: We have seen this with dogs we took off the street, that were long time strays, as well. Malnutrition seems to sometimes have long term affects that love and great nutrition do not always reverse. I still think that it's worth taking them in, but it's harder on the heart for sure, when you get attached and lose them too soon.

Here's yet another: The wonderful, durable, ever suprizing Iris story. When digging rhizomes for friends this Fall, I cut a rhizome in half accdiently. I didn't know if 1/2 a rhizome would grow so I just threw it aside. Well after several months of laying around the patio, I looked and saw buds emerging. Here are some pics:
