Variegata is a few days away from blooming and today I hear we may get a hard freeze tomorrow night. I hope it doesn't happen but it IS only the first week of April. Oh well, I'll cover up the few things I really don't want to have harmed and hope for the best.

Sherry, here's some photos of Candy Apple Classic. It has a pleasant fragrance too. I have a NoID that has the cat urine aroma.

I think I am glad that I don't have any cat urine scented iris. Well, I haven't had. We will see what the newbies smell like if/when they get to blooming.

Do any of you remember that song "Anticipation"? I've thought of it this week
when I've gotten out of a sickbed (the flu) to trudge out into the garden to see if
Coffee Shop has bloomed. I think I can almost smell the coffee!

I know that feeling Jan. And some seem to take forever. Have you ever waited for one to bloom for a week and then when it started to open it just would not drop that last fall........ so you helped it a bit? LOL

Oh! And NOID I. pallida is sending up a stalk or two.

One of the most frustrating thing an iris can do: all these beautiful buds form on a bloom stalk, then just sit there, never open, and then shrivel up. Apollodorus does this to me. It is a very later bloomer, and I think it gets too hot for it. When the darn thing does bloom, the blooms break off. Only iris blooms I always have sitting in a shallow vase indoors.

That would be very frustrating. I don't think I would keep that one around if it kept doing that year after year...better to make room for one that is better behaved!
