Margaret, Blinking Blinking Blinking Turning the furnace on this time of year is probably a little normal for you! We shut the rest of the windows here last night, as it felt chilly with the wind. Left the bedroom windows open though, because we like it to be cold when we sleep. Slept like a log!

Beautiful and 70 here, and it's only supposed to get to 85 today. Thumbs up

I gave in and turned the furnace on , it was just too cold! Hilarious! There are a lot of big really dark clouds that look like they could produce rain or thunder out there now. Blinking

Thanks, Ann. We're hoping by the middle of next week. We have about 10 more days of near or over 100* so hopefully before it's over. Good thing I have a big tub.

Crying Good Grief Leslie, still no AC??? That would be a nightmare to me. Could you pick up a small window air-conditioner to give yourself one room to hid out in? We have done that here since we do not have a whole house AC, just evaporative cooling.

Pretty much ruins the day when you have to be good! That is just torture! Hilarious! nodding

DH has been nagging me for central A/C today. I'm nagging back, with the word NO. Big Grin That window unit that we bought two years ago works really well at cooling the house down. Yes, I'll cave in eventually, but we need to sell our house in Utah before I want to spend that kind of money! It isn't that the A/C is out of range, but then the furnace will probably need to be updated because we want to add a heat pump. Not sure if we can do it over time or not. I know nothing about central air, so I have a lot of reading to do.

Luckily it is only 82 today. I can live with that!

Linda, I HAVE been spending extra time in the basement. Thumbs up

Natalie, you are so right about one thing leading to another. We've remodeled two houses and learned that the four most dangerous words you can say are "While we're at it".

Glare I am back Natalie...watch out! Whistling Hilarious! Internet light is still jumping all over the place but maybe it is just nervous today. Hilarious!

I would be like you and want to sell the other house before a big investment like that as well as long as you have a window unit. Gives you time to investigate. We got a new furnace a few years ago and then when we considered doing AC for the whole house it turns out that furnace was not two speed so tying in an air-conditioner would not have worked well for the high ceilings etc. we have so we would have had to replace the new furnace and then get the air combo. Too wasteful, money wise so research well. Stuck some window units in to back up our evap system and a mini-split for the bedroom. You might investigate those for the house. They are incredibly efficient! If you are not in a room no need to turn one on in it.

I'm a native Floridian so had hardly seen a basement until we moved to SC. The one we have now has the same footprint as the house. It's huge! I dream of making it into an apartment so DS can life there when he's older and we can switch and live there when we're "older". Leslie, be careful what you wish for! Our son lives in our other house. We decided to finally move out. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing All kidding aside though, he's still in college, and it gives him a cheap place to live, so it is working out fine. He pays rent and utilities, so we're happy that we don't have to stress out about selling it yet.

Linda, I know exactly what you mean about having to switch the furnace. That is my worry. This house isn't all that old, but technology has come a long way since it was built. So, the furnace could be a lot more energy efficient, I'm sure. We almost never use it because we have the fuel stove, but don't want to have to replace everything if we do need to replace it eventually. Just trying to figure out the best way to go about it with the least amount of expense. Our electric company has great rebates on heat pumps, so that will help. Just trying to convince DH right now that don't need to rush! Wish me luck!

I love basements! Wish we had one!

Goodness that is quite a range, Natalie. No way we will see any temps in the 80's now. The next 10 days here are: 108, 109, 109, 109, 108, 106, 106, 107, 107, 105. Now I have depressed myself, I usually do not look 10 days ahead. Crying Crying Crying Hilarious!
