If you found some HUGE ones, why didn't you just step on them or pick them up and drop in salty water? It's the little ones that are hard to find.

they are usually stuck on the bottom of my tool cart. i just squirt them and they fall off. stepping on them, they just get pushed into the damp soil... doesnt kill them. i've tried, got 4 more today.

All of your pictures are so pretty I'm hesitant to show mine. This is a new bed, just started this spring, by my front walk. The plants are all brand new, so most are small (except the 'Regal Splendor,' which was a lovely mutant when I bought it.)

Clockwise from the top are 'Regal Splendor,' 'Orange Marmalade,' 'June,' 'Designer Genes,' and 'Blue Ivory' right next to 'Designer Genes.' In the upper left next to the hellebores is 'Sno Cone.'

It definitely is fun to watch new beds progress. I just find it hard to resist the temptation to cram things much closer together than they should be so things look fuller sooner. But I know my hostas will grow better if I give them some room. Smiling

Karen - you've got a great start on that bed. Enjoy them as they grow. (And don't be afraid to study them and move them around a bit if you think they'd look better in a slightly different arrangement - most of us do that regularly.

I wish I could say there was a method to our madness. Fortunately my wife has a better eye than I do so when she is faced with a pile of new hostas to find homes for I think she has done a real nice job with what she has to work with. We have a lot more hostas than we have room for. This year we are not planning on buying many new ones at all. We have a lot of new seedlings we have to find room for. Here is a pic of one of our newer gardens we put together summer before last.
