@needrain Donald That's COLD! Sad Every year, I tolerate extensive heat and cold less and less. We will get that cold by 11 pm tonight. It's 32 in Dallas just 4 hrs north of us and coming this way. But now it is still 77. I am almost ready outside. Some will have to be on their own until tomorrow when the real cold stuff hits us.

I think, according to some of my friends, it has arrived at your place now. Official temp for my area is 21F, windchill 5F. I'm not venturing out to check my thermometer against the official reading. It's cold with lots of wind. I hate it.

Sounds like here last night. Early afternoon and the A/C was going in the pickup. That all changed about 2:30pm :(. The cows holed up in some brush protected from the wind and didn't bother to come up for feed this afternoon. They may not leave their warm spot until the wind fades and the sun shines. I'm grateful when they give me the break :).

I had to turn on the AC today. It was so warm out. I did try to bask in the Sun and get some errands done. Looks like it's our last "good" day for a while. It's slowly creeping closer and closer to me. We got up to 81F here on Padre and 86F in parts of the city. Currently 70F out there. I have the balcony door open. It should be here around 12:30am. Thumbs down

I keep checking the temperature map. Uggghhh.

Well now it's in the 40s. The front hit just minutes after my earlier post, accompanied by a brief, hard rain.

Good morning, sure is cold here at the house. AccuWeather says it's 20 with a wind chill of -4 and the wind is still howling at 24mph! Guess I'll have to get more propane today for the greenhouse heaters since I had to set them both on a higher setting. According to a formula I found for propane usage at 9000btu mine will use about 10lbs a day and right now I've only got two 15lb tanks hooked up to each heater (I forgot to mention that)

40F currently with a windchill of 28F. The wind is kicking at 34mph with occasional gusts in the 40mph range. I despise winter. This is not Corpus Weather Thumbs down

It was 36F at 7 AM and is still at 36F now. It is breezy, but not too bad. We are supposed to go down to 30F tonight, so I will cover my patio plants. I don't have a greenhouse and our cat eats anything green, so I am resigned to growing only plants that can survive outdoors. We had a very mild winter last year. I'm hoping this one doesn't swing the other way.

The thermometer out away from the house showed 10.5F prox. That's a bit lower than the predicted 15-17 for the area. It's matching what Facebook folks are posting in areas west of me. Ouch! Currently the breeze is light and that helps on the windchill. The electric heaters on the porch and garage are kicking on a lot, so the temps there are staying well above freezing. Not exactly warm, but not freezing. The moisture that formed on the inside of the glass front porch is pure ice, though. Good thing none of the plants are touching the glass or they'd have a burned spot. The high today is now predicted to be 29F and maybe it will make that. The sun is out.

It got down to 26.8° sometime during the night, then was still freezing until noon or so. I hate to think what it's going to do tonight! It's our second freeze of the season, because it did a light freeze on the morning of the 10th, after that previous night it failed to freeze as predicted. In the hills, weather can be unpredictable. I'll check the frostweed plants tomorrow...so far, no ice on them.

Don't have my own thermometer outside (another story) but looking at several weather sites the temp here has not been out of the 20s during the day. In the wee hours this morning it was in the teens. Forgot the number b/c I went into shock when I saw the windchill was 4F.

I've been wearing a full length down coat around the house. It even has a hoodie. (The coat, not the house.) Bought the coat years ago for a trip to NY to visit my niece and was not only glad to have it then but am very glad to have it now!

Word of the day? Brrrrr.

We drove up to the lake yesterday to drain the pump on the dock. Checked things and left. An hour up, then an hour back. Came home to stuff the last of the plants into the hoops. Took us about 4 hours, had to rearrange to put a second heater in the big hoop. Set up the heaters and hoped the weather guy would be wrong again. He wasn't...

Our daughter has a small hoop behind their fence that her husband made for her last month. I bought her an oil filled heater as one of her Xmas gifts, but decided we should take it over last night. They had a tiny electric heater on a table to keep out the cold in her hoop. None of us thought it would be so cold. We got home right before the front blew in about 7:30. It just stopped blowing a while ago. So far, all plants look good.

We are invited to an open house this evening, about four houses up the street. We're going to take the car because once the sun goes down, it's going to get really cold again. We're sissies in our advanced age! Whistling

Rolling on the floor laughing

I went running this morning with 35 temp and 24 degree wind chill. Of course the wind chill felt worse while I was running into the wind.

I wouldn't want to stand around in it, but running was not bad. When I stepped out of the car I was asking myself if I really wanted to do it. After a kilometer I was feeling comfortable, at 2 kilometers I was unzipping my jacket. By the time I finished that 24 degree wind chill was feeling pretty good.

I am quite sure that I could not run fast enough or far enough to ever be comfortable in 24 degree wind chill. I am impressed! You are either dedicated or crazy - or maybe there is no difference...
