Mine is loaded and the first bud opened up overnight. I only have a single tip and only one inflo., so no leis for me.

I am going to root this variety this summer and am waiting for (hopefully) tips forming adjacent to the inflo. This flower may be "simple" to some, but I love it.

I do too; it is large, keeps well and it has a fabulous fragrance.

I wonder how a Crocosmia aurea would fair in a leis? Seems like both the flower and the leaves would be interesting. I grow falling star and imagine that bright orange would be stunning. Supposedly the cut flowers are used in arrangements.

My Lei-guru, Kuana Torres Kahele, recommends trying anything and everything for making lei.

Take an hour or two. Keep your loved one in mind as you select the right greens and blossoms. Think of the time and effort you've invested in them over 18 years as you prep. Think about what they mean to you and how they fill your heart as you braid and tie the flowers. All of these things need to go into your lei. The emotion, the well-wishes, the heart-felt enthusiasm for the next stage in their lives.... all of it. As you place the lei on their shoulders these hopes, wishes and love will encircle them. The most cherished lei a graduate will ever receive is one made by YOU.

I have enough blooms to make for one lei- but if I do that, I will have a bald plumeria tree.

I'm doing a tour this morning so decided to adorn my hat with a lei. It is a bit sad - the white flowers in the center are from a tree that has long been one of my go-to lei flowers, but the tree (in a neighbor's yard) broke last week and is gone; I found just a few flowers left to put in my lei for today.

I have a large tree of this variety already growing, both at my house and at the Botanical Garden. This particular tree was nice because its branches hung low so I could easily pick the blooms.
The root system was compromised by a nearby large Ficus and it just broke off last week.

So, the tree was simply trashed?

Not a Plumeria lei - and not made by me - but isn't this a beauty? A company called Aloha Island Leis makes these from Dendrobium blooms.
