I've read that mosquitoes are usually active within 30' of their source. That said, I have also read that the yeast traps work well, at least till the yeast becomes inactive. In you GH it should work very well, and adding a little sugar once in a while should keep it active.

UPDATE. The window screen placed behind the box fan works. I had a small bowl of water behind it for a time. But it evaporated. So IDK how many mosquitoes were lured by it. But there are a lot of mosquitoes stuck dead on the screen. Thumbs up Apparently they are very weak fliers and if close enough will get sucked in. The window screen (held in place by magnets on the metal frame) traps them. Few if any mosquitoes in the greenhouse any more! Hurray! I gave in and sprayed Cutter Backyard Bug Spray in the yard. The mosquitoes were just too numerous. It was impossible to work outside of the greenhouse. It's better, now. It works great. I guess better to have chemicals on my yard surfaces than on my skin?? I also sprayed into the forest about 8 feet. Who knows if there is standing water back there? It is too dense with sticker vines to tell.

Someone on Nextdoor posted this a few days ago. I don't know where she got the instructions, but a lot of people in our neighborhood swear by it. She wrote that she doesn't even warm the water, just stirs it up. i can find her post if you need to see it. Hope it helps!
Oops! Just noticed someone above posted a video of it!

We need to get some spray to go around the edges of our yard, too -- we've had lots of rain and there is a lot of standing water in the swamp right now... and the mosquitoes are absolutely horrible!! I broke down and sprayed myself with some Off today while I was working in the garden, it was just unbearable otherwise. Sticking tongue out

Sometimes mosquitoes breed in guttering that doesn't drain completely. They also breed UNDER house in the crawl space if you get water puddled in there after a rain, some older homes do.
Cellars, flower pot saucers, and even water drains along the streets in front of houses stay damp and breed them.

We've been pretty much mosquito-free for the past few weeks but, while we've had lots of rain, not nearly as much as TX. DH sprayed Cutter just before Memorial Day but a new crop of them should be hatching this week out in the wetlands. I hate spraying OFF on myself and did buy a handy mosquito netting thing that I wear over a hat. That and long sleeves and long pants is doable for me although I sure sweat a lot.

I was reading an article on the aggressive Tiger mosquitoes, and it said they could use something as small as a bottle cap to breed. They are a day time biter, most active from 10AM to 2PM. Harrisburg has them, in some areas pretty bad. Our daughter couldn't let the children out to play unless they were slathered with some kind of repellent.

The news just reported the first case in our area of the mosquito-borne, Zika virus. Mosquitoes are more than just an itchy pest. They now carry so many diseases.

I think I've seen "somewhere" a description of how to make your own mosquito traps that use CO2 as the attractant... as I recall, they involve the use of yeast. I'm fairly sure that the propane "mosquito magnets" operate on the same principle of producing CO2 to attract the mosquitoes. I'll see if I can find it again and post a link.

Oh, wait -- I just scrolled up a bit and see that there's a post from Bubbles (Sandi) that describes the process! Smiling

I found out by accident that mosquitos do not like Tigerbalm. When I used to visit my parents in Indonesia, the mosquitos really loved me. My parents didn't have any problems at all, but I looked like my skin was full with polka dots, tan and medium pink. The only thing that helped stop the itching was Tigerbalm, so I put Tigerbalm where all those dots were, and they not only quit itching, but the mosquitos also stayed away. Back to the US, when I have to tend my yards, I put Tigerbalm on my wrists, my ankles, around my face, my ears, my neck, avoid the temples near my eyes, and I wear long pants and socks, and long sleeved shirts that were treated anti bugs--and it is wonderful---the bugs leave me alone, even the gnats leave me alone, no buzzing --- I buy big cans (1.7 oz (50 g) of Tigerbalm (Ultra strength) from Amazon. They are also available from Costco, but I am not a member. I told friends in Many, Louisiana, who have a big garden, and they told me that the Tigerbalm also helped them not being eaten by mosquitos and other bugs---

The pants and shirts are labeled "insect shield" or "buzz off" or "insect blocker" made by EX OFFICIO. They are not cheap, but they go on sale occasionally.

Someone told me that Skin-so-soft sunscreen + bug guard by Avon also helps, with but I have not tried it.

I hope this helps.

Wow, @tantefrancine. My late mom and dad grew up in Many and my little sister was born there in 1945. Small word indeed.
