This old Hoosier hybrid is opening a spike, this was one of the seedlings obtained when the nursery closed. It is Encyclia dickensoniana x edithiana, I checked the RHS, didn't find it registered. It blooms on a long spike.

Lovelies, Ursula. That last picture is a sweet symphony of colors.

I have a new flower open this morning, too. Zygolum Rhein Harlequin has much deeper color than the camera captures.

Hi all! Sorry I have been absent. It has been a busy summer so far. We found a house that we like so have kicked up the punch list into high gear for our house. New HVAC system arrived today so install will begin on that very soon.

I had my first AOS judging session. The interviews went great and I am officially nominated into the program. I will be official at the November meeting, but all judging sessions in between will count.

We taught the "Orchids on the Windowsill" at the MBG yesterday and brought a good selection of examples. We think they had a good time and learned a lot. Not all are perfect windowsill plants, but we wanted to show a bit of variety. C. luteola, Miltoniopsis Andrea West 'HOF', Phal. H.P. Norton, Brassavola nodosa, Rhynchovola Jimminey Cricket, C. Little Flame, C. Valda (1901), and just for giggles Prosthechea mariae and Den. wassellii.

All of your blooms for June look great! Hurray! If I get some time, I will try to take photos soon. So busy!

Good to have you back, Melissa and congratulations on your judging exploits. Wow, a new house! That will keep you busy for the summer.

Ursula, you know I'm an old Hoosier hybrid too. I thought you were talking about me for a minute. I'll check for a registration on OrchidWiz for you. The flower is really nice. Your Vanda tessellate is simply wonderful. I'm going to have to look for one. Is it a warm grower? Hot colors on that Epi. Very nice.

Elaine, nice color on the Zygo even if the camera didn't get all of it. Your Copper Queen still looks nice. I think I'm all set here for the 26th. It should be fun.

Zygo is not giving me any fragrance just yet, but the second flower is opening already, so maybe tomorrow? Copper Queen is a champion bloomer, I must say! It's not even 2 years since Ken sent it to me, and this is its 4th bloom cycle.

Yes, I still haven't heard back from the Plantio folks about the 26th, either e-mail or a call back on my phone message. Maybe they are out of the country. If not, I'm fairly confident they wouldn't miss an opportunity like Tropiflora's sale.

We just had a very intense thunderstorm go past. Not a drop of rain here, Rolling my eyes. although it's still dark and thundery, but now there are numerous sirens going by . . . wonder if there was damage of some sort?

I haven't heard any thunder yet but there are some black clouds looming in the Southeast. I have to go sing at an ALF at 6:30 so I hope the weather holds.

Heh, it is great to have a true Orchid Judge on the forum!!! Way to go, Melissa!! Thumbs up You will do a great job!!

Jim, I seem to remember that you lived in Indiana!? Smiling
Checking the Vanda tessellata, it is supposed to be a cool grower. I am glad my plant can't read!

Elaine, thanks, those Zygopetalum hybrids always make me think they are fragrant.

It is raining here too, no watering today!

Wonderful blooms everyone !
And Congrat's Melissa. It's an accomplishment to be proud of. I'm with ya on the so busy my eyes are crossed. Catching up after being sick. We had gutted one of the bathrooms and are doing all the work ourselves. Sigh...Not something I think I want to do again.

And reading back thru some of the previous posts regarding light levels. We filled the entire back of the pick up truck with tree trimmings. Darn tree's grow ya know, and all of a sudden you realize where you had good light before which was perfect for whichever plants you had there now was too shady. It's always something.

I do need to take the camera out and get some pics...I'm always a day late and a dollar short on that !

Ursula, I couldn't help you with your Encyclia cross as all I get is not registered. Do note that Encyclia dickinsoniana is the correct spelling of that species.

Elaine, we just got the storm you saw! Very electric storm and a huge dump of rain. Everything is saying, Ahh...the temps dropped 15 degrees!

I'm going out of town for 7 days and leaving all the plants to the hubby....his most important job is to take photos of the big, meaty NOID Catt that is starting to spike....oh boy!

Thanks for checking Jim, I figured I have it misspelled, but it is still not registered. I will send the picture to Leon Glicenstein, he probably made this cross. He might like to see it.

Well, when you have two plants of the same, and you know now the registered name, you need to correct the tag on BOTH!! Yes Ursula!! Rolling my eyes.
I have flowered one of them two years ago and the Encyclia is Hoosier Ruffels. Encyclia dickinsoniana is the synonym of guatemalensis! Encyclia guatemalensis x edithiana is Enc Hoosier Ruffels.

Strange, when I was running down the correct spelling of Encyclia dickinsoniana, I never saw a mention of it being a synonym of guatemalensis.

Opening last night was Stellamizutaara [Stlma.] Kelly 'Lea' (B. nodosa x Ctna. Keith Roth)
