@Boojum, Kathy you gave me some years ago a beautiful mounted Schomburgkia brysiana. It is opening this week on an almost 4 foot long spike. Once it is almost open, I will try to get better pics inside.

Thank you Jim, Ursula & Ken for the info regarding the plant database...I was just hoping to browse orchids for things I hadn't seen before...kinda hard to do if I have to know the names first! Not a big deal...I can go to any of the bazillion websites dedicated to orchid pics!

LOVE the colors on that schomb. Ursula!

Thanks for the welcome Elaine, this is a very friendly place! Smiling

I am trying to picture the 4' spike. It sounds so fabulous.

The temptation to show Alice that old picture of me and the 6 and a half foot spike on my Schmburgkia undulata was just too strong. Sorry guys.

Not much happening with Orchids, so said Patty! Rolling my eyes.
Nice looking blooms and healthy plants, very nice for sure!! I would say! Lovey dubby

Jim, I love that picture!! I think that IS the only way to show it, holding it yourself! I put mine into different spot in the yard and in the cage, it always got lost with all that background.

LOL, Ursula! I have somewhere around 175 to 200 orchids....so TO ME it doesn't seem like much is happening right now!

A mere 2 months ago this was my phal section in bloom:

Jim, good grief. That must have been awesome in bloom. It is time for me to go back and visit Carter and Holmes and see the big pretties in person. When I lived near there I used to spend a lot of time and money with them.

Very nice show, Patty, and all of the plants look very healthy.

Alice, here is that big undulata in bloom. (This auto correct always changes it to undulate.) Grumbling

Jim, that's a gorgeous bloom! I only have 1 schomb. It's brysiana v. "Hackler's Yellow"...it's never bloomed for me, but I've only had it a year or so. How much sun do you give yours??
Wait a minute...I think I also have a 'humboltii' (isn't that a schomb. too?) and that only bloomed once for me (mostly purple if I remember correctly). Now I have to go outside and check the label...

No, I think humboltii is a phrag. that perhaps Ursula grows. You are probably thinking of Mcp. humboldtii which used to be a Schomburgkia. Mine is the alba form shown here.

Two others I like are the Schomburgkia tompsoniana
Thumb of 2015-06-18/hawkarica/fd4c21

and the Schomburgkia brysiana, var. semi alba shown here.
Thumb of 2015-06-18/hawkarica/28e99b

These have all been changed to Myrmecophila [Mcp.] through no fault of their own and many of us are not happy about it. I think Kathy said it best when she pointed out that Schomburgkias were just Cattleys on steroids.

I forgot to comment on the sun requirement. They take a lot of sun. I grow them next to my Vandas.

No, not a Phrag of mine. But, all of your Schoms are attractive! I love the "colorful crispy Bacon" flowers on huge stalks.
The Schom/ Mcp brysiana I have posted this morning is always placed into full sun! It took a few years to see it responding to my conditions.

I guess I need to fetch my Mcp. plant from their tree-shelf and give them more sun then.
