I've just started enjoying Hibiscus in my gardens. I notice that you stake yours. Is that necessary as they get older? My oldest one is 2 years old, so will it start drooping with age? Love the bright pink one of yours!

No no that isn't staked, I haven't had to stake mine. That is a container with which my husband just stuck that in there to get it out of the way. That pot has dahlias in it. I just left it there and the branch that flowered just kind grew into it. That is all.

Angie, hi there. Facebook ;photos are only updated to the middle of June. Haven't even looked at the photos there in a while. I am so far behind in EVERYTHING!!!!!

Cherie, I'm starting at the beginning and I love your blooms!

The Lilies, gorgeous, as are the Brugs!

Rose, I was going to do brugs too till I found out they have to be dug. I barely have room to store Glads, LOL!

Cherie, I'd love to have a three season room! Smiling over how full your's is!

My addiction are Daylilies. The neighbor just put three I don't have, on the ''Free Pile'' I put across the road. And, I also snagged a Hosta and more Turtlehead :o)

Cherie, awesome! You keeep the Elephant Ears going all winter? Man I need a bigger house!

Wow, no wonder DH bought 10! They're beautiful!

I absolutely love the rosy pink lily that has the blue centers. Do you have a name for it?

Wow, I had quite a flower fix! All are just beautiful!

Are you in the country?

Sally, Larry Rettig just suggested to me last year that I try burying my glads really deep, and then giving them a thick layer of mulch over the winter. I'd always dug them in the past, and often lost them to drying out over the winter. I tried his method, and they came back, good as ever! See, if you don't have to dig your glads, you'd have room for brugs, right? Whistling

Oh Angie thats bad lol thats really bad.........................I didn't even try to do Glads for the same reason that they have to be dug, stored and replanted every year. Now ask me what the difference is with Dahlias and brugs: I have absolutely NO IDEA why. Brugs smell wonderful especially at night, Dahilas because I get late season blooms and color. Never was much on glads...................

Angie, laughing, I have noticed the tiny bulbs that don't get dug will grow the nest year. I may have to try that. 4'' deep isn't deep enough, so I'll dig them this year. I have no mulch and am not sure what to use. Larry isn't too far from me, so we do share the same weather.

Cherie, I was given Dahlias that got 6' tall and loved them, but I slowly lost one a year and now have none. The roots were pretty big and I think a little water would have helped.

I never tried brugs, but did have Datura one year. Fostweed sent me seed. I stll have some of the seed, but forgot to try and start any this Spring.

Sally, when the Datura seed pod is about to burst I cut them off and save in brown paper bag. In fall after the first frost, I cut all my Datura plants to the ground and throw out the seed pods where ever I want them to grow and they come back the following year. I put the pods in containers and in a bed covered with rock. They seem to prefer a location with morning sun and late afternoon shade. First blooms arrived 07-27-11.

The key for me is do not start by seed. They hate to be transplanted and in my case never make it. Just throw seed in fall wherever you want them to grow and you will start seeing seedlings around June. They are evening bloomers so they are very enjoyable for people who are gone all day and can only find time to work or sit in the garden at night.

Cherie after first frost in fall. Be careful next year you don't pull them as weeds, seedlings don't start coming up for me until June. I don't think you would have the same success with some of the doubles and colorful datura but it works great with the single white.

Thanks Susan. I will definitely get some for this fall. I managed to get Cleome that reseeded itself this year. I haven't been as diligent with weeding this year and lo and behold I actually have them blooming. Must have been pulling them up as weeds all these years. Think next year I will do a bed strictly cleomes and daturas and not weed it until Aug 1st? Hilarious! Hilarious!

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! You know you are not alone the rest of us do it all the time too. I love all the surprises I get when we have hot summers like this and I don't go out and weed. Shoot some of the plants I thought died a long time ago came up this year with the weeds.

Susan, I didn't think they would be hardy enough to winter over in zone 5A. I'll try that with most of them this Fall, saving a few to sow next Spring, for fresh seed in case these are too old to do well.

Your's are so pretty! Beautiful close-up!
Ooooh, a wallful! Now that looks nice! I really love the wall too, LOL!

Cherie, ROTFL at myself. I had so much old seed, I sowed it in a spot we are going to seed over this Fall. Out of everything, one lone Cleome sprouted. Now, if the bugs will quit riddling the leaves I may get to see what color it is.

Susan, suprises ARE wonderful! I had to ask what my mystery plant was and it was identified as Heliopsis, Lorainne Sunshine. What? Where did that come from??
