SongofJoy,
I grew those on my patio in 2006-2008. The ex-DH neglected them, but I brought 'em back to life for him.

The cool porcelain bowl was filled halfway with garden soil, and they just thrived. They really were beautiful ferns!

I tip my hat to you.

I didn't remember that you had a potty too, Tam. That looks good but it's well disguised under all those flowers. Are they planted in the potty or in the ground? Do you have it elevated for drainage like the sink? Seeing this makes me want to keep mine in one piece. I've decided on a spot for it in the far corner of the yard under a big old tree that's part alive and part snag. So I'm thinking I will keep this old one and plant it. Why not? I can always take a sledge hammer to it someday if I change my mind.

I hate that about the Emerald Ash Borer damage. :(

Yes, it's dry here too. We've got many dry, dead leaves already coming down out of the trees and it's still August. Sad

I like kitty too ... got one one in my lap right now, as a matter of fact. So busy, busy. Big Grin

Plants in the toilet are real eye-catchers. Those are beautiful colors, Tamara! Trim them back so you can make out the toilet!

Love, love, love, the cherub fountain AND the kitty! What was your process for painting the cherub, and the large white pot? I'd love to try painting some concrete pieces with the bronze and/or copper patinas.

Thanks!

Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Thanks all....Camilla from DG in concrete creations has helped me with what an hows to paint concrete. She is a wonderful artist, thanks Camilla Hurray!

All I used was exterior latex primer 1st,then you know those craft paints in little bottles, bright copper ,then a wash made with teal, dry brush, and wipe ,then i used rustolium clear.Camilla recomends Behr sealer but it only comes in a gallon can.I m thinking the rustolium brush on clear is working out very well so far..Just dont use Oil based ENAMEL on concrete,it will blister and peel ...LIKE my big green frog is doing,I used hammered green metalic ,frog now has a skin affliction Rolling on the floor laughing Sad

Same for the cherubs, statue I used pewter then sponged bronze over that ,and sealed ..BB Gold with black wash, used a spray clear NOT HOLDING UP WELLL... Thumbs down

The kitty is Big Willy,I have 2 tuxedo kitties...Matching pair Big Grin

Ive trimmed back the petunias once well twice if you count the 2 fawns that were nibbling on all my stuff earlier... Hilarious! Wish I could find the photos from last year, had cascading petunias in it ..these are growing straight up in the air Confused Confused The toilet is all together we have it settin on patio blocks so its level,Ralph drilled a hole in the bottom of the bowl for drainage, tank already had holes in the bottom after removing the guts...I love it Angel Angel

Ya'll have convinced me to do it. I forgot there isn't a hole in the bottom of the toilet bowls without drilling one. I learn a lot reading these posts. They are like mini-courses in how to do things. Appreciate the little tips on what works and what doesn't. Thumbs up

Do you have any problems with it when it rains hard?

We think alike because that's what I was thinking. Then I realized that toilet drains don't go straight down (something to do with allowing water to stand in the drains and thus preventing sewer gases from coming up ... same as why a sink drain has curves in it ... but I'm not a plumber so that might not be exactly the correct explanation). Anyway, if you look at the side of your toilet (unless you have the new straight sided kind) you will see how it drains. So in order not to have a bowl full of soggy soil, it would need a hole directly out from it at the bottom. Does this make sense? Blinking
