LOL. I thought everyone knew that but me. Hilarious!

My good painted plates and platters stay inside too. Most of those are family heirlooms.

OK, just read that the pelican poem is often attributed to Ogden Nash but it is actually by Dixon Lanier Merritt (1910). That's my trivia fix for the day.

My dad used to recite that to me when we'd see one on the beach. DDT took most of them in the late 50's and 60's. They've just returned in the last decade. I too thought Ogden Nash wrote it, but I never can remember the correct words anyway.

That darned DDT did so much damage to the wildlife. Grumbling

They've moved to the garden. I was thinking how much fun it would be to have one of those motion activated speakers that looks like a rock and it would play that poem when someone walked up to this part of the yard. What a hoot!

Pecalin is what my daughter called the pelicans the first time she ever saw one years ago.
That and pterodactyls.
I think she was about 4.

A speaker would be fun! Looks like you'll have plenty more. I see they've laid eggs in that shell!

Cute, Sharon! They do come up with some doozies!

Daligirl, just about the time they recovered , Katrina hit and knocked them back. The biggest blow was the oil spill, however. They're just such unusual looking characters. Hadn't thought about it, but they do look a little prehistoric too! Sharon, your DD may have been on to something!

Keep your eyes open, Tee. Pecalins have been seen on the northern end of KY Lake where I am. Surely they are souther than that and if you were a little closer to the river there in C'ville, you might see them. Lots of egrets, too. Herons.

Hang on tight, Boo. You know very well I can't color within the lines.
Nor can Tee, and probably not Bubbles.

On the other hand Tee, ee cummings wrote only of love and ethereal things of the heart and body and soul. He probably wouldn't have touched on the love life of pelicans.
But then I'm not a connoisseur of fine pelican poetry either so what do I know

I really want a heron for my garden. Or an egret. Hadn't thought of pelicans till now.
I like your platter.

I have seen both herons and egrets on the rivers and various places here. Yes, indeed. But no pelicans yet. However, they may be disguised as pecalins. I'm keeping an eye out. Saw tons of 'em in CA. Some places there they were/are considered pests. Imagine that. Hundreds of them perched on piers and surrounding rocks. It was all the pecalin poo they left behind on the piers that got folks so upset.

There are lines for coloring??? Shrug! Hilarious!

I'm still toying with the speaker idea. I'll have to check into the cost. Lovey dubby Somewhere we chatted about a "Giggle Garden" but I don't remember where. I still think that's a great theme even if I did think of it. (At least on that thread ... but there is nothing new under the sun.) Big Grin Big Grin

Having recently broken my very favorite, very old glass casserole dish (art deco design), I am now using the glass paint to paint some solo lids. This one is drying on the fence with the sun shining through. Picture several together ... almost like flowers, eh? (Good morning, Canada). Those inexpensive plate hangers work well for this. You could even get one of those thin green hoses and make "stems" for the flowers. Perhaps a bouquet?

I love that, Tee...oh how cool. Now if I could just break the casserole dish that I have not used in about 15 years. And if I had a fence. Awwwwwwwww, very cool.

Thank you. I can probably break the dish for you, Sharon ... I specialize in demolition, destruction, and total messes these days. Confused

I came across this gal awhile ago. Is she a friend of Ruby's, do you think? Alas, she's a bit on the short side as she has no body. Sorry it's so dark ... she is a dark, brooding, mysterious figure at times. But most of the time she's smiling and fairly happy.
