Rita, it isn't "hoarding" when it's just plants and seeds (and other garden-related stuff) ! Rolling on the floor laughing

And you never know when there's going to be a big tomato-seed shortage and then we'll all be in a bidding war to buy some from you.

I got my compost pile "turned over" today -- that was important to me to get done and the clock was ticking (as it was, the north side of the pile was pretty "crusty"). Even though we don't have any snow on the ground yet, our temp never got over freezing today; but the sun was out, and very little wind, so not a bad day for late November. I really wish every year could give us this much time to get the garden chores done Smiling

I had tulips that started to emerge from the ground this fall. I also had a few re-blooming irises that had enough time to fall bloom. It was nice. Now I'm buried in snow. This picture of the sunrise over the machine shed was taken yesterday.

It was 0 degrees out, so it wasn't pretty being out in it.

Today was much nicer, up to a low of 15! Smiling

I heard on Garden Talk, a public radio talk show, that one should mulch garlic after the ground freezes, not before to keep it frozen at a steady temp over winter so it doesn't rot. Is that what I should do. I have mulched it already, and now it's covered with a foot of snow, but it's supposed to be in the 50's on Thursday with rain, so it should all melt. I could take the mulch off and let it freeze if that's what you think is best???

Leave it on. Mulch helps prevent those freeze and thaw cycles that lift the garlic out of the ground. The roots will do some growing over the winter.

We had our first frost a few days ago. Well, the first frost that was still detectable the next morning. "First frost" was three weeks later than the 20-year average this year!

Amazing to me how long your tomatoes have managed to hold on and produce. Mine are long gone.

A friend of mine said she is going to cook up the last of the tomatoes I had given her. They were green when she got them and got ripe inside and now she is going to make sauce.

There are still hundreds of cherry tomatoes but Smitty is the only one to eat those that drop now. I'll bag them up tomorrow and they can go to the dump along with the 10 bags from dahlias. Last week Jack took 21 bags to the dump - free this month.

While I was out exercise walking with my dog Lily the sun kept going in and back out. Now that I am home it has stayed out and it is sunny. But yup, very cold, not even 40 degrees.

The exercise walking is pretty normal for us, we usually go off for a 3 mile walk each day. Well, not if it's raining as neither Lily nor I want to be out in the rain.

No frost here as yet, I have to catch the weather report to see if it is expected or not. Otherwise it is supposed to warm up slightly again by Wednesdays and Thursday.

Had early frosts this year but the first freeze is right on schedule. Retrieved the last of the African Horned Melons. Don't care for them myself and I am having difficulty finding takers. Really produced very late in the season. These are still pretty green, don't know if they will ripen at this stage.

Yup, the cherry tomatoes do tend to hang on and produce till a hard freeze. But I pulled mine out with the last of my common tomatoes as I had to get things set up for spring and didn't want to wait any longer.

We've had strong sun all day long. Our high was 42 but tonight's low is due to be 31. The same for Glen Cove per Weather Underground. When it's a day for warm gloves, I know it's cold. Still lots more work to be done in five gardens but I'll be tackling it on the warmer days.
