I'm happy that the transsylvanica has made it. The first time I planted it, rabbits ate it. Now I have two in the ground that they haven't bothered, so I'm hopeful they were just sampling it the first time and decided that it's not for eating.....BTW, I will have seed of all the salvias should anyone want to grow some.....

As soon as I get my bigger garden, I will have room to grow more, just need to check hardiness zones then as I'll be dropping to around an 8.

Do you know when you'll be moving?...where to? I love new starts... how exciting. We really live in a pretty cool area, but I'm bored and would like to move...decisions, decisions....I like it where we are, but I also love to go north and we're limited here by the yuck of spending 3-4 hours just to get across the L.A. basin. I can never get up to points north often enough....

We are looking in Sebastopol, where Zuzu lives. So far, we haven't found what I want yet. Only doing this once so it has to be the right one where I get an emotional tug regarding the lot, house is secondary.

I love Sebastopol....we'd looked in Guerneville, Occidental, etc. before going on to Washington. Sebastopol's much better than an '8'...you can grow tons of stuff there. If I could move to that area tomorrow, I'd do it in a flash.

Actually, lately it's been colder. Yesterday I did several garden tours up there, one of the designers said it was 28 degrees when she got up Sunday morning and here it's almost June! She actually said it was more like 7b this past winter and she's been there 35 years. Of course, there are micro climates and a 'banana belt' so it all depends where you are. I figure, as long as I can grow citrus, and I've seen a few when touring properties, it can't be that bad.

Seems like it was pretty comparable to what we had in Martinez.....I loved it. Enough chill for fruit trees and yet I grew tender stuff in covered areas....and I had no gopher problems in Martinez. I don't know why...amazing. I inherited about 50 roses there and they'd never been bothered by gophers. Just thinking about that area makes me want to jump in the car and head north right now. One of the old guys at one of the small nurseries here said that ever since he started planting tulbaghia/ Society Garlic everywhere, he's had no gophers. So today I divided up a couple of large clumps and I'm plugging in Society Garlic everywhere...can't hurt. We'll see what happens. It's a fantastic day here today. Some days I don't want to work on anything and other days I try to do everything at once...today is one of those days.

Weather was nice, overcast with high clouds, a bit of blue skies and sun, perfect for a busy day in the garden.

Yesterday was nice, but today has been awful. It was so cold all day. Never got beyond 59 degrees.

I can't believe this weather. I should be suntanned the color of a tobacco leaf by now. It's almost June and I'm freezing.
