Mary Ann, my friend's father died and this poem was posted with his picture on facebook. I thought it was the most comforting thought I had ever heard, so here it is passed on to you.

This is beautiful. I may have to steal it! Have we run out of favorite colors of irises?

Me too. This has been a year for the warmer red tones for me. I looked at my list of wants and besides the obligatory blues it has gotten longer with warm red tones.

Bought some dwarfs which I thought I could use for hybridizing. We will see next spring. Pink again. We should really should be grateful to Barry Blyth & his breakthrough for those.

In thinking about "favorite colors", and "break throughs"........There have been quite a few ! Some hybridizers worked their whole life, basically , looking for a "clear" yellow....a pink....a red, whatever, and, when you look at the "species iris" that are behind them all, you really can't help but appreciate the work and dedication that went into "todays" iris !

I recently planted Blyth's 'Chanted' from Susan (stilldew). Really looking forward to that one, and one of its offspring, 'Cocoa Pink' that I planted this year from Suzanne (Calif_Sue).

Bonnie, they both make me think of you and your fondness of pinks with blue beards- do you grow those?

Arlyn, you are so right, it's kind of mind blowing to me. Reminds me of daffodils, and the species N. poeticus with that tiny red rim on the small cup. That razor thin line of red is the genetic source of all the pinks and oranges that exist today! Makes me wonder about the source of pink and red in irises.

Yes, Neal, I have grown Chanted for several years and this year I added Cocoa Pink from Sue. Another one I really like is Cute or What which ranges from pinks to peach with a blue beard and this one is Golden Apricot and has so many colors in it.

I do love a pink iris and a 'little' pink one is just precious. If it has a blue beard, well...... the only thing that would be prettier is a blue one with a pink beard. sigh

Cocoa Pink is one I got from Sue too, Neal. A few months ago.
Just going through my iris photos, I was struck by the pleasing purple/
lavender of "I've Got A Secret" (Ernst)
