Dog Lover
Hi, my name is Leda. Last summer I went wild and started buying all sort of African Violets and then fell in love with other houseplants as well. I don't know how many plants I have but I feel ALIVE again!

I have been in a depression for awhile after the loss of my eldest son. (Please don't run away! I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.) Most of the time I volunteer on a forum helping other moms with their loss(es).

I have decided that this forum is going to be my "Happy Place." Smiling I am a dog lover and dog trainer and a gardener once again! I find this place very comfortable and friendly. It is a pleasure to be here!

Here is the garden by the couch.

Welcome! Tara!! Your African Violets are beautiful, I'm impressed. I've never done well with them but I love looking at pictures from other people.

We are a great bunch of people here, mostly happy and always supportive. Anything you want to know about plants and gardening there is probably someone here who knows the answer and is willing to help.

Have you seen this thread? I am very fond of it and it keeps me looking for things every day that I am happy about, it's a good reminder.

Welcome Leda I'm not real big anymore on house plants due to my son was allergic to the mold that is produced when you water plants. He is 32 now and married with a home of his own but I still garden mostly on my back patio since he really hasn't ever outgrown his allergies.

Girl, I know exactly what you mean about people running when you mention you loss a child. We lost my 27 yr old step-daughter, 16 years ago after giving birth to her 2nd child. I had raised Joann since she was 7 yrs old and got Ashley full time at 9 days. I also had her 5 year old brother until he turned 18 and didn't want to follow rules anymore. I dove into gardening. It helped me a great deal. I hope you are also blessed by this adventure!!!

Dog Lover
Hello everyone, I just found this thread. I am still trying to make my way around in this wonderful and fun site. I was attracted to it because everyone is so friendly and "chatty."

Yesterday, I found the "Happy Forum" that is just chitchat but can't seem to find it today. I am also trying to find a place that explains badges and acorns.

Jeri, I am so sorry to hear about your loss and thank you for validating my experience. I have both healed and volunteered on a forum for moms who have lost children since I found it a few months after my loss - now almost 5 years ago. Last summer I regretted my compulsive buying spree of plants last year, but now I realize it is my path to healing!
I don't even want to guess at how many houseplants I have now!!!

I am not new to gardening or houseplants, but still seem to need lots of help. Thank you everyone for being here! Smiling

Hi Leda,
The "happy forum" that you're looking for is probably in the sandbox. http://garden.org/forums/view/...
As for the badges and acorns… The thread "Help with site features" in Welcome forum

Hope this helps. Smiling

The nicest thing about this group is they take as much pleasure in sharing as in receiving something new themselves!! I think it won't take long and you'll feel right at home.

Click on the house icon at the top and any thread that you have posted on will appear on this page and you set up threads that you are watching.

Jeri,

Thank you for explaining the house icon. I made sure to mark all of my questions. My navigation skills are still faltering, like a baby bird learning to fly.

Anyone??
Do you know or does anyone know why I am not getting my notifications on my iPad. Last week I was notified by sound and now for some reason I am not. I did not realize how many comments I had waiting for me.

Thank you,
Leda

Hi everyone!

I used to frequent Dave's Garden, signed up here a couple of years ago and have just been really, really busy so haven't joined in!

I have no where near the number of houseplants I once had, but still have, well...a lot!

My biggest problem of late seems to be under-watering. I've lost several plants this winter due to my own negligence.

It's been quite a cold winter, thus the furnace runs frequently so it's been quite dry in the house.

As for the under-watering, I need to find some good quality hanging baskets with saucers that attach that actually ~last a while~.
The saucers of many of my hanging baskets are crumbling/breaking apart, and I think that's a big reason why I'm under-watering...nothing to catch the excess water.

I just read the thread on columneas, and fear I'll be spending some $$ soon! Big Grin

Hope to 'catch up' with some old friends, here, as well as make some new!

Hi Nan,
I am new here but am going to welcome you back anyway. Hilarious!

I tried looking up columneas but could not find what they were either on the plant database here or on the internet. I too, lost a lot of my plants over a dire situational depression. I am coming out of it now and I don't know how many plants I have now either. I lost one braided Lucky Tree because the heat blew right on it and I didn't see it until it was too late. Sigh!

So I am enjoying my fur kids and finned kids and plant kids. Hilarious!

Hope to talk to you later, Group hug
Leda
