This raceme/ umbel is a curious thing. Between us, I think it is just a difference in name calling, as I look at a lily umbel as "pedicels originating strictly from one spot" ( or two if it is double decked). I would call the forms in your first post mixed. Regardless, the Flora of North America lists the michiganense inflorescence as as raceme.

Maybe it's just because it's easier to tell with a strict umbel form, but they always seem to have varying pedicel lengths. Not so much with your forms?

Remember the spot I found last year with all those baby L. michiganense? Well they did good over winter, and this year, 23 reached a size large enough to have one or two buds. It looks like the remaining 40 or 50 will be large enough to flower next year.

Note the other native flowers it shares the area with. This must be a variant that likes a little drier upland environment.

Rick - I did some looking at inflorescence types (google search) and it doesn't seem there is a name for a double decker umbel with how this looks in lilies and so this may be why they call it a raceme? The pedicel length does seem to be consistent on a plant - some are longer and some are shorter but for a given plant they seem to be similar in length.

Rick, I know you are a species Guru/enthusiast. This was suppose to be Auratum gold band. Obviously not that. Is this still an Auratum variety?

I think it is still easily within the species' variation (of Lilium auratum). "Gold Band" is just a common name given to the species, no matter what the variation might be. Often you can find in catalogs, the Gold Band lily sold with a photo similar to yours. Some have just the gold (or greenish) band with little or no spotting, some have a red band, some with a yellow turning red as it reaches the end of the petals, some with lots of spots. Yours semms like the variety they sometimes call "pictum".

Myself, I do prefer the more plain gold band. This one came from the Species Lily Preservation Group, oh so many years ago.

Unless someone has the same species, L. poilanei, L. majoense or L. nepalense, Kushi Maya (or the like) is probably your only other possible suitor. I just picked some Kushi Maya stamens today if you need some.

On a related note, when my garden was on the North Star Lily Society martagon tour this year, a member brought me some Lilium nepalense as a gift!
Very excited!

In no particular order of bloom time:

The yellow form of Lilium concolor - first bloom

Lilium callosum and the yellow form(two seedlings, first blooms)

Lilium canadense - first flower, a tiny bit disappointing as the seed came from the reddest flowering one I have seen. Seed wild collected in Ohio.

Rick - your expectations are maybe too high if you are disappointed in that red canadense seedling. Growing this to flower is challenge enough! I know what you mean though - hoping for very specific look and it didn't happen.
