It is L. michiganense time here in Michigan. I went on a few drives to look for wild stands of this lily. 2 weeks ago we had massive rains and one of the worst floods on record and I found several groups of this lily that during the flood would have been completely under water (above the highest buds).
These stems were 3' to 4' tall and you can see the dirty leaves in the background left behind as the muddy water receded.
I went back to a spot where there was a really nice stand of early redder ones and there was one puny stem that was all distorted so no need to show that one.
I found a new location with some redder colored flowers:
Here is a picture showing the typical location I find them when driving in the county - they are in a ditch were there is some water in the spring - often growing in grasses & ferns and sometimes cattails.
A few more random pics of ones I found:
Timing is everything. If you go looking too early or too late you can drive right by a big group of stems and never see them in the grasses. Here is a stem that is just starting to get color on the buds - almost missed this one. I know there are more that I drove by but did not see them as it is a little early for some locations. This one is right next to a "Rail Trail".
If I had more time I would walk more trails and even kayak the rivers in this area to look for other groups but that will not happen. I hope you enjoy these photos.
