I spent a few hours yesterday potting plants I dug back up on Tuesday (that were in the ground all summer.) Some of them look a little flat from laying on their sides for a few days, but that's how the timing had to go, once I realized it was going to be all I could do Tuesday to get them excavated & in piles under shelter from all-day rain Wed. Whatever I don't get done today.. well, that's not an option! Here's some combos that will hopefully be "happy families" until spring.






I think this is my prettiest individual plant, for right now anyway... If I can get a better pic of it, look for it in the photo contest!


Now to get DH to put 3 window A/C's away, and rearrange some furniture... the slow-mo panic continues!

Tiffany, I here you with slow mo panic all of fall and most of winter feels that way for me. I hate seeing my plants struggle. I had to help with taking some window units out I swore I would not help putting them back in and want a split system installed in spring.

I love your colorful baskets. I just really can't understand why everyone is not crazy over these amazing plants. Everyone should have succulents stuffed into every corner of their house.... right?

I couldn't agree more! I'm always wishing I had more windows, bigger windows, but then try to stop & remind myself how lucky I am, and that there are quite a few windows in this house. More than I've ever had before, and with a little creativity, DH & I have added more hooks & shelves to make the most of them. It will take a few weeks of tweaking things, but I've managed to find decent, if not great, spots for most things.

I finally got around to adding the tiny plants to 2 sides of this. (First shown 11/14.) This helps a lot with space, tons of plants in this 1 container.

That will be a lot of fun when it fills out. Will this be a hanging basket? Is that peperomia in there? Do you remember the ones I bought? One is dropping all its leaves still green. The lithops are doing great beside it...... I dunno I guess it needs more water. I have left it very dry.

Is it P. dolabriformis? Mine did that a while back and suddenly the trunk was woody. But yes, I think it would be a lot more thirsty than the Lithops, but never had one by itself to have any basis for comparison. For your container that has those 2 together, I might use a squirt bottle to spritz a bit of moisture at the base of the Pep, but not enough to get over to the Lithops side. The mini garden my Lithops is in has a lot of other plants in it, but I pour a lot more water near/over/around all but the Lithops, which is kind of by itself right in the front. Someday it will need to be redone, and I'll see where the roots have gone from each thing, and how big they are...

I've thought about hanging that wire thingie next summer. IDK if our ceilings are up to it inside though! It's seriously heavy after I watered it. There may or may not be some Peperomia in there. My eyes aren't good enough to know from the pic, I'd have to go look, I just put stuff in there until I got sick of doing it (TWICE, once in the top, then later on 2 sides.) LOL!

I was not sure if they would work out together so I guess I will give the pep. a different home. What would be a good companion plant other than more living rocks? I guess I should just wait and see if I am any good with them. I have only had them for a few months and they have flowered and grown a little but now they are just sitting there like a bunch of lazy rocks

Pleiospilos and Conophytum are often pictured planted with Lithops. IDK if that's because they just look similar, or because they also dig the same digs...? I haven't had the other 2 to even begin to form an opinion.

The last frost scare here turned out OK, didn't happen. Friday night they're saying 33, so I cut off all but one of the really big Kalanchoes that were still outside, removed enough leaves to have some naked stem & stuck in them into 3 pots. Assuming they'll finish blooming, it should be quite a show!




The one with blooms open already was already in this pot, added 2 more. (And the Portulaca has taken root, and still making some blooms.) The piece of Begonia I put in there about a month/6 weeks ago didn't take off.


The removed leaves, I'm gonna have more babies than anyone needs.


The last really big one, still outside. (Zinnias are still blooming!) I guess we'll find out how sensitive to cold it is, unless I find myself chopping it off... no guarantees either way, I never know what I'm going to do sometimes.
