May I add that you shouldn't give up on a sheath just because it looks brown and dry. Sometimes even those ones produce flowers the next season.

I'm not giving up on anything Elaine, that's far too defeatist for me! Whistling

Yes, Ken, they were all BS plants.

Thanks Ursula, for the info...all my stuff is mixed together, and a lot are fairly new so I'm not sure if they are spring or fall bloomers.

Everything just looked so much better in the spring than they do now... Shrug!

That's a beauty, Lindsay. I'm very partial to that Brassavola shape of flower.

Lovely yellow Vanda above, with those pretty little freckles, too.

I love this time of the year! Here was my morning surprise... I got this beauty from a friend a,few weeks ago, and it opened up today.

Thumb of 2015-10-29/MamaIve12/c0f360

I had to research a bit to find out the name, so I could upload it to the plant database... but depending on the site queried, it's either Miltassia Charles M. Fitch 'Izumi', or Bratonia Charles M. Fitch 'Izumi'. Confused

Just thought I post an update on my Spiranthes odorata, before they go "back to sleep".

And the second pot, also looking a lot better than growing outside.

Ive....Jim ought to be able to clear up that name problem for you...he's the resident expert (with the help of Orchid Wiz!)! It's a very pretty bloom!

Ursula, is that an orchid??? I LOVE it! I assume from the name that it is fragrant?

Yes, these are Orchids, Patty.
We have been tracking LOTs of Spiranthes cernua, a native Orchid, at our place in NE Pennsylvania for many years. These always start blooming around Labor Day, and they are truly charming little Orchids. They actually also grow along a slope along a Highway in Pennsylvania, as we discovered many years ago.
A few years ago, a vendor at an Orchid Show sold pots of Spiranthes cernua v. odorata and I tried to naturalize them in our backyard. After a few years they started to decline and - playing around with them and realizing they grow well in Peatmoss and do better growing along with my tropicals, I grow them now like that. These bloom later than cernua, always start in October into November.

Not quite yet, Ursula, we leave in the morning. I'm taking a break from packing and will post a couple of pics that I took this afternoon. First up is Epidendrum [Epi.] Güarionex (Epi. Lime Drop x Epi. macrocarpum). The name is relatively new and I have no idea how to pronounce it.

Then there is C. Irene's Song (C. Mari's Song x C. Irene Finney (1964)). Would you look at the scale on her? It looks like I'll have something to do upon my return.

Beautiful blooms Jim! Have a safe trip!

Thanks for the info Ursula...I love that orchid! Think it would grow well in Florida? Have to add it to my wish list, I guess!

I'll be gone for a week---going to Oklahoma to visit my Grandma...she's going to be 98 in November!
Ya'll try to get along without me! Rolling on the floor laughing
