I tip my hat to you. Lindsey.

This is my first and my only Burr. Heck, I had to look it up to see that Burr. is Burrageara. I still don't know anything about its lineage. I will divide this plant when it is done blooming. That looks like it will be well into winter so I might wait until spring, giving it some rest time. Thumbs up

My noid Cattleya bought about 13 years ago as C. mossiae 'Campo Grande', starts blooming. Since it is the wrong time of year for mossiae to flower and seems to be a hybrid, perhaps with C. labiata, this one has been officially a noid for the last six years or so.
The scent is very pretty.

Its too bad you can't put a label on it, Ursula. I like the flowers and the nice fragrance is a bonus.

Wow, you would divide that Burr already, Ken? I'd be thinking that plant was just barely reaching its prime.

I'd never buy a plant division with less than 3 pseudobulbs, to be honest with you. It would take way too long to bloom otherwise. But I'll put in a bid on it when it's finished blooming if you'll leave it intact. Angel Big Grin

Elaine and I have been talking and it looks like November the 18th will be the next Apopka run. We will try to get up there fairly early and have lunch at The Catfish Place as usual. Charlie Chapman's place is under construction, literally. They built a new four lane highway right through the middle of it. I have already found an alternative so we will hit at least three places. This is a great opportunity for Christmas shopping. Elaine will be coming up from Sarasota and I'll leave from Tampa. Let us hear from you if you're interested and we will work out the logistics. I recommend applying fire retardant to your buying shoes. Group hug

Elaine, I never divide a plant for sale if I can't get at a minimum of four stems/pseudobulbs per division. Also, there has to be at least one lead pseudobulb/stem. If the division consists only of back pseudobulbs/stems, I keep that plant.

This particular plant (and now I know that it is no longer a Burrangeara but is an Oncidopsis) has seven pseudobulbs and I expect more to grow by spring (only a guess on my part but it seems to be a fast grower). I can't grow many "specimen" size plants unless they are compact or smaller. I just don't have the space. I will keep in mind you have interest in this particular plant but if you remain interested by the time spring rolls around, you might want to job my memory. I am afraid that my brain cells are dying off by the second. Sighing!

sign me up Jim...I don't have fire retardant shoes..but will bring an extinguisher ..I think I still remember how they work...pull the pin...squeeze the trigger...aim at the base and use a sweeping motion...
are these places cash and check only or are credit cards accepted?

Lindsay, the place with the really great bargains, First Orchids, is strictly cash only. Krull-Smith takes plastic and Jim says there is a third place we'll visit that I don't know about. But I always bring enough cash, the good thing being that when it's gone, it's gone and I have to stop . . . Rolling my eyes.

The new third place is called Orchids in Bloom: (407) 242-0619. The owner's name is Pam (not really, she's Thai). Location is 2001 Rock Spring Road, Apopka. She took my plastic at the Orchid Expo here in Tampa. The first place is indeed cash only and English is a third language Hilarious! . Give blooming Dendrobiums or Phals to all your friends for Christmas for $4.00 a pop. I'll call ahead so they know we're coming.

That went fast, Bert. It's great that you have some in bloom. We will be travelling to Fayetteville next weekend. The last time we played up there, we were greeted with snow and auto accidents all over the place. I don't mind the cold (I can always dress for that), but please, no rain/snow.

Elaine is picking me up for the Apopka trip...I can't wait! I'm glad I read through thiese posts though or I wouldn't have known to bring a bunch of cash ( depend on plastic a LOT!)

I returned home Saturday and nothing new is blooming in my yard. Thumbs down But boy oh boy, you guys have some incredible stuff going on! I was drooling all through the 4 pages! I can't remember the names from the previous pages but I LOVE that black one, and the hologlossum above is gorgeous!

I think this is a terrible site to be on for me...I want one of everything I see!!!! Whistling

Glad you are coming, Patty. I'm sure you will enjoy Apopka.

Bert, I too love that Holcoglossum [Holc.] wangii. It's probably a typo but check the spelling. I've heard it is hard to bloom but it sure looks good in your hands.

Dendrobium rigidum is opening some spikes this week. This one dropped a lot of growths last Winter, but it seems to have stabilized over the Summer and added some new growths again.

Here's an update of the Bc. Star Ruby 'Xanadu' AM/AOS. Both flowers are now fully open. The upper one has been open for three days and the lower one opened yesterday. No fragrance on these cute flowers.

Here is a three-plant mount (cypress) that I'm really proud of. This will be the first time blooming and there are (so far) four inflorescence stems. I grew these from flask and have been growing them for four years. Patience has paid off (sort of). I shipped these plants out this morning so I won't see the flowers.
