That one is sort of similar to my Den. Aphrodite x Den. Golden Ava, @Ursula. These plants bloomed winter into spring and two months before blooming, they dropped most of their leaves. Once blooming was done, they grew new canes and new leaves.

I love the Holcoglossum, but really, that tiny Den with ivory flowers, what a gem!

I'll dare to bore everyone with a couple more shots of Spathoglottis as they are blooming up a storm out there where I'm trying to clear out and plant my Earth Boxes with veggies. I think Little Lulu, and Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird' will be photo worthy tomorrow.

Too large to take inside in the Fall, surely they can't survive in zone 6b outside. I gave up large Cymbidiums and Phaius for the same reason.

Some are pretty small terrestrials, Ursula. I only grow mine in pots and have them blooming that way. Of course, during the fall, they all come inside.

Sounds good, Ken. I just have to draw a line somewhere. Sighing!
Btw I don't think I have ever seen them around here, not a shows, not in greenhouses, none.

On the Spaths size, Ken it might be another case of you not keeping your plants very long. My Spaths are pretty big plants, and as they mature they seem to be getting bigger and bigger each year. Not as large as a Phaius or Cym but the yellowish ones in the picture above are at least 2ft. tall.

Couldn't wait to show Bl. Little Lulu just opening nicely today, and Neo. Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird' with a few open on two spikes, and (to my delight) another spike on the second lead coming! This plant has been beset with insect problems, and blasted at least three spikes, so I am really delighted it has finally managed to flower.

Elaine, I would call it delightful on both!
I have a Lou Sneary which aborted a few spikes last year and is now finally opening a spike too. I don't find it an easy repeat bloomer.

I've finally just hung it up high with the Vandas, so it's getting the daily mega-water and fert regime along with them now. Plus staying on top of the insect problem with Spinosad has helped everybody out there in my cage a LOT through this summer! Very little flower thrips damage happening now, Hurray! .

Now . . . if I can just get ahead of the black rot. Still having to pull a lot of my cattleyas under the overhangs to dry out, as the humidity has been crazy for November, usually our driest month. Dry weather hurry up!!

That could be true, Elaine. However, my 'Grape Swirl' never got over 16" and I had some of those for 2 years before I sold out. The 'Snow Angle' is supposed to be similarly sized, but the 'Snow Angel' plants are not quite a year old. They max out right now around 15". I do have a purple that has 2'+ leaves and inflorescence stem is at least 2' tall. I do know compact varieties exist and I have had an eye out to purchase those as seedlings, but they seldom come up for sell.

I am posting the now fully opened Ornithophora radicans one more time, before that plant starts going to sleep.

Those are beautiful Elaine and Ursula! I love all the brasso types...and I'm going to have to find one of those Ornithophora's that is now at the top of my wish list! Hurray!
