Yours are doing better than the "Mother" plants, Charles. That's just not right. Sad

Those are great reds, Hetty. Cheryl, you really do NEED a few reds. They make the joint look fancier. Thumbs up

@Dutchlady1, do you know when Vera Cruz Rose was registered with the PSA? I went on their site and the entire site was down.

Love all those reds, Hetty and Cheryl, you're doing great with your little plumeria nursery there!

So, I probably ask you all for advice on this one every year. It's a variegated (obviously) one that is supposed to bloom yellow but I've had it for 4 years now, and it never blooms and basically has not grown more than a few inches in all that time. It makes one rosette of leaves each year. I potted it up this year and it has a larger bunch of leaves than it had last year, but that is the extent of its progress. One problem I have with it is that the variegated leaves burn if I give it too much sun, but I think it needs more sun to bloom.

If I plant it in the ground, it will have to compete with oak tree roots in all the best spots, morning sun only etc. So it is currently in a 3gal. pot in semi-shade of my bamboo clump. Maybe I can plant it where it will get late fall to early spring (weak) sun only? But it does lose its leaves through the winter, too. I'm stumped. Any words of wisdom for this silly little plant?

I am simply going by my own experiences, since all my plants are potted. Growing mature plants in pots is different than growing them in the ground. This may sound counter-intuitive.

Even though this plant has grown oh-so-slowly, it is still more than 4 yrs. old. Perhaps it needs more potting soil to grow a more vigorous root system. Even though it has probably been hybridized to death, it is still a tree (genetically). Why not up-pot it into a 5 gal. pot (minimal) and see if that helps. Having more of a expansive root-ball should also help give you better moisture control (I try to keep all my plants pretty much constantly moist spring through summer). I water every day but since I make my own potting mixes, I know my plumeria potting soil is very well draining. Having this constant moisture to draw from, my plants seem to handle the harsh sun better. So far I haven't seen any sunburning.......knock on wood.

Big Grin That's the only reason it's still around, Cheryl. Won't bloom AND won't grow. I mean, I've grown two cuttings from Ken into 6ft. giants in 2yr. and this little guy gets the same care. It's one stem about 28in. tall with one set of leaves. Really wimpy.

We cross posted, Ken. It went up from 2gal. to 3gal. this spring. I guess it can't hurt to try something bigger.

You know I am always into experimenting with something or the other. I have found that many of my plants (epiphytes excluded) grow way faster and seem to be healthier the larger pot I can get them into.

I got in a batch of Bletilla in the early spring. I potted them all up in 4" pots. In early June I up-potted 18 plants into 3/4 gal. pots. These were all about the same size plants. Now, about 2 mo. later, those in the 3/4 gal. pots are twice the size as all the dozens of others. This same is true when I do this with my Leopard Lily seedlings and my Euonymus 'Manhattan' rooted cuttings. I find the same thing happens when I up-pot my plumeria and air-layered ficus plants too. It appears that my adenium are doing the same thing. Those up-potted the soonest are all larger than their siblings.

Clear skies, no wind??? My neighbor was outside all day and said the air was still. They were standing 2 hrs prior to the picture. They fell like domino-effect. But the first tree was not large enough to take the others down! A mystery! 2-1/2 leaves broken but luckily that's all. Was going to trim the trees next spring. Might have to rethink this!

Beautiful reds Hetty! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Elaine, that is a beautiful variegated plumeria, hope you can make it bloom!

Cheryl I agree with Ken that it might be too top heavy. I have some like that. It is constantly being blown down by I don't know what.
