Deb you and I can winter sow together! That will be a plant project over winter that we can do. I forced bulbs last yr for the first time and now I've got something to do that's different. I don't have milk jugs or cartons so I 'm going to use solo cups. Seed sowers are enablers too.

Linda, mine get brown tips by the end of July. Doesn't faze it much, simply looks bad. Honestly, I don't do anything to it except occasionally give it some water. Keeping yours out of direct sun for most of the day is good. It was time to let mine have more room. Will see how well it does. Don't give up on yours unless it just keels over dead, okay?

Kabby, I don't sow seeds for the most part. Have never had much luck with it and prefer plants. I'm decent with keeping those going. Have seen several NGA folks using Solo cups effectively. And it is cheap, too.

The one big tree left alongside the driveway still has some living parts. Leaving it in place for now. If I wait until it rots from the base like the one a couple of weeks back it will come out much easier.

Transferring the mama fan(s) of Navajo Narrative to the larger container was easier than I expected. Didn't realize the original container had become so brittle--it broke off and peeled back in sections, no muss-no fuss. The roots were extensive, though, and it was obviously past time to move the poor thing on up a size or two. I scraped off as much loose soil as possible into a bucket, then dumped the old container over into the new one so I wouldn't lose the soil around those roots. Well, and because the darn thing was wedged in there pretty good! I mean, I did knock the dirt off before repotting, but I captured most of it. The plant already looks happier. And I now have all the 'biggie' plant projects done. Still a lot left to do outside, but nothing that can't sit for a long time. Sister is picking me up around 9:15 tomorrow morning and I expect to have good drugs and COFFEEE by late afternoon.

Iowa state fair has fried twinkies

Last time we were at Walmart they had fried twinkies boxed up in the frozen food section. Seems like it would ruin a good twinkie, haven't had one in many years.

At the Iowa State Fair they're always frying something new. Even fried butter!!
