Gita, the Maya was a rooted cutting that Sally gave me at the swap this year. It is in the garden bed, so it has got plenty of room for the roots. It is now about 6'×6'. Green Grin!

The night time low will be 30F tomorrow . Guess I will have to let go of this big plant and take cuttings tomorrow. Once this plant is cut down, the garden will really look like a desolate winter garden. Glare

Crossing Fingers! I can grow the moonflower vine next year. I'll have the reg white datura seeds (still blooming btw) to share at seed swap as well as some blue MG seeds. Did a swap for a few 'Box of Chocolate' Datura seeds so might have a lil of those to share if someone is interested. I was SO enthralled with Dr Seuss' huge flush that I currently have a doz different cuttings rooting in my newly made bubbler. Blinking

I tried to grow some last year. Either the deer, squirrel or chipmunk ripped them out and ... Oh hell, you know what they did. The same thing they ALWAYS do. Grumbling

Speaking of brugs, just saw this pic posted in a Brug group in FB. Obviously not my pic.

In my early years of trying to root and grow Brugs, I did anything and everything to follow people's advice. Much of it came from CA.
I think it was someone from CA that went on and on how the "bubbler method" was the cat's meow in rooting green Brug cuttings.
So--I went to Walmart and bought everything they suggested. $$$$$

NEVER had any luck trying to root the green cuttings in water! They rotted out,, even if I changed the water as directed.
Don't know who suggested just rooting brug cuttings in soil MIX. BUT--
that always has worked like a charm for me. Have been doing this ever since.
Chantelle--your white "Brug" is it the one that is perennial? It smells good and blooms at night---the leaves feel velvety soft?? It spreads fast? Yes?
BUT--it isVERY invasive and VERY toxic and will cover half your house in a couple years.
It is NOT a Brug like what we are talking about--like Maya and Dr. Seuss.
Look at the difference in the blooms! The beautiful, bell shaped blooms
vs. the single, white flower. Some people even call this one
"The Moon Flower"...

Sorry if I am wrong on any of this. You can give a shout-out to others here
and see what they have to say.

You're correct Gita - the pic above is a datura not a Brug. and yes they do reseed like crazy but the seedlings are very distinct and easily pulled up. They don't come inside - they just reseed each year for me so I don't have to worry about pets with them. They do bring in the night pollinators which is pretty fascinating not to mention the amazing fragrance at night! As for the bubbler it only cost me $15 altogether - seems to be working. I'll let you know what my experiences with it in a few weeks.

Jimson weed self sows, so it makes sense the white Datura would also self sow, and thus the yellow doubles too. I have two current seedlings of yellow double Datura under lights. Hope to get a jump on 2017 with those.

I got two nice fat Maya Brug cuttings today, potted in soil a la Gitagal. I'm not sure I will take a pink brug cutting. I might let that one go. But I could relent next week, assuming it survives frost enough.

@sallyg - love that site for looking up plants!!! Do you have any pics of your pink brug's blooms and do you remember how fragrant or not it was?

well, it was fragrant, as to quality or amount?? judgement call...got it from somebody in this group, so if you had a pink from this group (Gita?) it may have been that. Plain green leaves and has been hugely tall (6-7 feet from a potted cutting in spring!) for me. isn't it astounding how fast they grow? Shall I consider this a plea to get a cutting for you? I think it will survive the first frost enough to get one. Will try to get pic tomorrow too.
Plant it and they will come.

@sallyg - mercy, am I that transparent...or would consistent be a better word? Only if you don't mind babysitting a cutting till seed swap. If you have a pic though I could compare the bloom to the other pink blooming cuttings I have Crossing Fingers! rooting.

Question all ISO of local sources for the following (that I thought I've heard you all mention or refer to) and opinions/experience with and pricing:

Thanks, Sally---Sounds like it will be a busy Thread..

I just wanted to add here that YEARS ago--I had a pink Brug.
The blooms were pretty. The scent was nice--but not as good as Dr. S.

I had it for a long while--but, eventually, I got rid of it. It tended to grow too tall
and the stems were quite sprawled out.

I'll try to dig up a picture of it.....next post...if I find it... G.

Chantelle---
Seems I owned THREE different pink Brugs way back in 2005 and 2008.
Found the pictures as well...

2005--Had a pink one just called "Rose Souvelons" (Not a real name--just a variety). The blooms were OK...
Thumb of 2016-11-12/gitagal/eff6d1
Thumb of 2016-11-12/gitagal/304a50

Then--in 2006--I had a pink one called "Rosemond". This one had powerful-looking blooms. Don't remember if it just wasted away-or I chose not to have it any more.

Next--also in 2006--I had a beauty. It was tall and very pretty.
It was called "Forever Mohr"--as My "guru" on Brugs back then was a memeber called Shirly Mohr. She hybridized this brug and named it after herself. She sent me a start.
Here is "Forever Mohr">

I am pretty sure what I have is from the Rose Souvelons. One year I grew it in a pot, it stayed compact, yet bloomed, and was a real treat for my dad.
Plant it and they will come.
