That's really amazing. I bet it's a lot of tedious work crossing sedums?

Thank you Chris. It won't be much longer and we will be seeing new photos of your beauties.

I don't think it is tedious work Cameron. Just place pollen from one plant to the other plant bloom. Let the seed mature and harvest. I winter sow planted into gallon milk jugs and let nature take care of germination.

I just found some volunteer seedlings from my Autumn Joy sedum. I threw the seed heads in the ground when I was cleaning them up and they sprouted. Hurray!

Hurray! Wow, I never thought about them reseeding. I must have weeded out the tiny seedlings over the years. Rolling on the floor laughing

I thought they were dead cuttings that I just threw out but I didn't see any remnants, and the leaves looked a lot smaller than if they were grown from cuttings. I don't know how long they've been there either. Hilarious!

I just read it's a hybrid so I guess one of the dead stems must have had a little living tissue on it. Sorry for the misinformation.

Cameron, if by a 'hybrid' you mean it is sterile, that isn't necessarily so, I don't know specifically about yours but it is possible that they aren't sterile - which would be nice!
I tip my hat to you.

@Valleylynn - will you call out Chris Hansen - he probably knows if Autumn Joy is sterile or not...now I'm curious Thanks Smiling

I think 'Autumn Joy' may be sterile, and only produce from cuttings or root division. But I could be wrong.

@SunSparkler
Chris do you know if 'Autumn Joy' is sterile?

Hope he sees the call out. Hurray!

It would be best if mine produced viable seeds. I found some seed pods nearby. I'll take a picture later of the plants in question. Thumbs up

OHHHH Lynn, your sedum looks so beautiful! I am highly jealous! I don't have much planted outside, but what I do have is covered in this

BLECH!!!! So very sick of this white evil cold.
Do you have your plants all marked with their names, for your own memory, or is your yard open to the public for their viewing pleasure? I am just curious. It is a good idea (for myself anyway, so I do not forgot the names of my precious specimens).

I do know where I am going to be planting my new sedum garden, so I have something to look forward to as soon as the snow melts....FOR REAL this time! Confused
Until then, I will live vicariously through all of your beautiful photos!!!!

Brea, I do occasionally have visitors walk around the beds, mostly the succulent beds. Most things do have name tags, mostly to keep things correctly IDed, and it is good for visitors to be able to see what the plant is. I guess you would say my garden is a specimen garden?
I can't wait to see your new sedum garden when you get it planted. Hurray!

You've got me on that one Cameron. It could be either seedlings or small new plants from pieces/roots of the parent plant. How far away are the from the parent plant? I see there are some differences in color and foliage in them. At least that is what it looks like in the photo.

I would oh so gently move them into containers and observe them.

I think it's about a couple of feet from the parent? The parent plant is in a tall pot. I'll move them to a more hospitable spot because I'm afraid the coneflowers will eventually cover them. Thumbs up

Good idea Camerson. That way you can observe them as they grow. It will be interesting if each shows different characteristics when they mature.
