Oh what a cutie pie that Charlie is!!!!

Celeste, your Little Rainbow daylily is a wonderful example of polychrome, my favorite bloom trait! Here is the registration for it
http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli... and the colors describe it perfectly.

You all are adding these to the database right? Big Grin Thumbs up Detail check-off has just been made easier too, some are auto-filled now. See my tutorial on the main Daylily Forum page.

WOW! Beautiful yellows ALL! And Charlie-- well, who couldn't love that face?
Now this is interesting.... I recall some conversation not long ago about how where it's grown & the conditions making such a difference in the daylilys....
Diana, here is my Siloam Double Classic --- grown in Zone 10 southern coastal Fl.

A yellow that I used to have that I really liked was Natchez Moon. I think it was a sib or half sib to Childhood Treasure.

Another one I like a lot I have not grown, but grows a couple miles away at my friend's garden. Moldovan's Starbase Alpha. My friend says it takes 3 days to open. Even a hail storm would not take down this flower - it has substance on steroids. It is not known for having poly flowers.

Stephanie, I'm not sure about the tissue culture on SDC ;IMHO I think it's more of a soil thing. Here is 2 pics of mine. The peachy color is when I first got it in the nurseries soil planted last August and the pink one is from this spring (April) after it got established in my soil.

Juli, I love both those yellows. The blooms look so sturdy. The comment about hail storms & steroids seems to sum it up about right.

Michele, that's very interesting. Mine never bloomed that I saw in the pot from the nursery but did once I had planted them. They have always been the exact color as in my photos & that even includes any time of day or weather or season --- that's THE color. Michele, I just have old crappy Fl. sand --- what is your soil?

Ann, Where I was living we have a a clay type soil; gets very hard when dry and doesn't drain very well. In the bed where SDC was planted I dug up all the grass and some of the soil. I then filled it with soil from the corners of the horse pasture where the rain washes all the manure and such to. I also added perlite for drainage. I mixed it all together with the soil already there. When I would plant a daylily I would add pinebark to the hole. This spring before I remulched the bed I top dressed the bed with alfalfa pellets, milorganite, slow release fertilizer, chcicken litter (the processed kind you buy in a bag), epsom salt, and I think a little ironite.
Now all my beds are just pine bark (dime size pieces) and sand mixed together with the added amendments. If I ever have to amend soil in a bed again I will just add pine bark and till it in then add the admendments in the hole when I plant something and top dress the bed.

It could be that it changes color with the Ph of the soil, sort of like hydrangeas do. I keep mine around 6.5 which is what daylilies like.

Michelle that is great to know it can be so different on the same plant. I feel much better about it now. It is such a pretty one.

It may very well be the ph. Who knows? I like both colors so it wouldn't matter to me which it was. One looks definatley pink & the other definately peach. Wild.

Stephanie, you might want to think about it. It's fragrant & down here the heat cuts the fragrance pretty early in the morn as it's so hot so early & then you get the fragrance back in the eve when temps. cool. But where you are it would be fragrant for more hours of the day. I have found it to be a delight. Has not displayed any problems for me & down here blooms from early to late --- that is to say the enitre daylily season.

I may have to do that. I don't have a lot of room as have so many I use in Hybridizing and seedlings taking up most everything, but there is always room for a pretty one somewhere isn't there Shrug! Big Grin

Hi, I'm new to ATP--saw Julie's post to the Robin and thought I'd check it out. Hopefully will have more time to read and post over the winter..... But thought I'd try posting a few of my favorite yellow daylilies. As others have said, it's pretty hard to limit to 5.

BUTTERCREAM by Whatley is gorgeous!

TACO TWISTER by Ned Roberts is a lovely soft yellow cascade UF

WHERE EAGLES SOAR by Jamie Gossard is a tall, fantastically branched glowing golden yellow

Have to include Curt Hanson's CAPACITY FOR WONDER--a wonderful yellow with pink highlights

New this summer to my garden is Paul Owens' lovely FABER SABRE
