I know next to nothing about orchids, but an oncidium given to me has bloomed well. Along with Phalaenopsis, they should be on the 'always rescue' list Thumbs up

awesome score of seeds!
Plant it and they will come.

First thing I do when I go to Lowes is head for the clearance rack -- even our Wal-Mart has a 50% off rack.
Just recently bought a fairly large Jatropha reduced to $4.98 (needed watering); and a very large Calibrochoa (three different colors) in a hanging basket reduced from $15.98 to $5.00); again it just needed watering a little deadheading. They're lovely.

I'm like you Orchidgal -- I head straight for the clearance racks at Lowes, HD, and Walmart. I've found some great finds. In fact, since Lowes and WM are on my way home, I find too many great finds. And, of course, whenever I go out of town, I do the same thing -- head for the local BBS clearance racks. You'll be amazed at the variety of plants you can acquire that way. For instance, I was in Charleston, SC, visiting family last week. On the way there I stopped by Lowes in Summerville. I bought a small pint size coleus with a $1 clearance tag on it. (I was trying to behave and have a plant free visit). When I got to the register, the clerk said .54 cents. What? Blinking She said all yellow tagged plants were 1/2 off. So I headed back to the racks and got 2 different salvia and Homestead Verbena for $1.50 ea. Oh well, I tried to behave. Lovey dubby

Who can behave when they're 1/2 off the clearance price??!! Rolling on the floor laughing

Am I the only one who buys clearance plants before I know where I'm going to put them? At any given time, I have 5-10 plants just waiting for me to figure out what I'm going to do with them. "Oh, it's such a good deal, I'm sure I can use it", says my bad self Whistling

I buy full price plants before I know how I'm going to use them, and I am trying mightily to ignore those impulses. Maybe if I take a page out of your book, Ibis, I can indulge the impulse and spend way less at the same time. Angel

Shoot, me too! I also grow lots of seeds without very much of a plan as to where they are going to end up... I wonder if this is why my gardens look a bit... um... random Rolling on the floor laughing

Not just planting the seeds, but buying them. I decided I wanted white in the front yard so went to Select Seeds and bought about a dozen packets of white stuff and figured something would work, so just start them all and see what happens. All the designing books and mags talk about making a plan. I have a plan. I plan to make it up as I go along and love every teensy nanosecond of it. HA!

Ha -- visit my house. I have an area around the side I call my nursery. Everything goes there while I think and think -- exactly where am I going to plant this ? It usually take a few days for me to come up with a spot because I am seriously running out of room.

That will go very nicely with my Trachycarpus fortunei Palm.

Good luck everyone!

Rumor about that all the chilly wet weather in Mid Atlantic for the last two weeks has Lowes all backed up with too much plants...just sayin

Thankfully, I am going to a swap today where the plants are better than clearance AND I can get rid of some at the same time. Thumbs up

Lowe's was totally overstocked. They had clematis in the $5 rack, so I had to get one. Nothing wrong with it other than the "Buy Me" blooms were gone.

It's going on our chain link fence on one side of the house along with the sweet autumn to hopefully cover some of it Smiling
