I've been wanting a blue walking Iris for several years but have never seen them at any of the nurseries here. But amazingly at last fall's clearance rack at lowe's - several 3 gal. pots marked down to $5.
It is now blooming -
Made my stop at Lowes after the dentist, did not find any plants calling my name. Did pick up a tool that I wanted so it wasn't a wasted trip. Drooled over the full priced plants but held myself back.
I too am a clearance rack junkie! Especially when a perennial that I've been dreaming to have shows up on clearance! Also I'll divide the ones that can be divided. Even more bang for my jingling change!

Anna! those ears are huge! I rescue many that are full priced also.
Yesterday I had some time to kill between appointments, after the dentist also Robin. I didn't buy a thing. I think the Novocaine not only numbed my lip, but numbed my urge to buy. Bad? Good? The jury is still out.
@piksihk beautiful Walking Iris! Mine are the opposite, white and purple and very much resemble my Japanese Iris. @Gigiplumeria. Walking Iris live in the shade in my zone. Mine need more water than they get but I am working on that. @AnnaZ Every plant needs rescuing from the store. No doubt they will have a fabulous life with you. @KYWoods my hubby and I call them the Dead Plant Sale.

Cheryl, I hope they do have a wonderful life with me!!!! That is my intent. My "rescued" orchids are blooming their little selves crazy. One of them has 2 large sprays of blooms. They are phals. Paid only about $5.00 or less for most of them because they were done blooming. I just leave all the bloom spikes on them, only cutting off any part that I KNOW is not viable any more, and I get lots of repeat bloomers.
My vanda is also setting another bloom spike. First one of the year. The vanda was NOT a "rescue"...........I paid dearly for that one. $40.00 or so comes to mind. LOL
I'll have to get a pic again of the reblooming orchids that are "rescues".
The walking iris is a good deal, I love mine, found it at a plant show for six, so you did good.
I always go to the clearance racks, it is hit or miss, but some of my best plants have come from them. Sometimes I buy an almost dead plant for the nice pot it is in.
This planter is full of .50 clearance plants. Got them all back in Dec and Jan.
A little off-subject, but I once needed boxes for a move from apartment to house. Having trouble finding some
I looked into a dumpster and there I found dozens of flower and vegetable seeds still lined up in their cardboard
display waiting for me. I especially like radishes, and there were packets enough for five years. I had no idea
the viability was so long.
I bought a 3' $4 lilac once. It turned out to be one of those really dark purple ones.
I also bought a sad looking cattleya orchid which recently bloomed after several years of care.
And an oncidium (dancing ladies) orchid which blooms from Thanksgiving through Christmas. It has been divided
into four pots at this point.
