I got a bit carried away but I rescued several cheap plants some of which aren't in bad condition. I got an Orchid which doesn't look too promising but there is hope to recover it. I also got a peace lily and a fern as well as a another pothos which looks like a slightly different species to what I have. I also got a dwarf bird of paradise which might require more light than what I could give it I just have to see how it goes.
hopefully you are able to revive them. I have been lucky that my last couple years of rescuing succulents have started paying off. Not all survived but the ones that survived have been propagated and shared with friends. Just a few samples, hard to believe these came from clearance rescues:
When I repot my desert roses, I take cuttings and use succulents as "dirt cover" or top dressing. These are cuttings I took from my top dressing desert roses and gave to a coworker who was starting a succulent garden.

Haveing spent this week assembling plants for indoors, and destroying summer tropicals to preserve some parts over winter, I was not in the mood to add another medium plant and a floor size plant.

That is pretty! Those Philos can get huge after a few yrs. Like can't fit through a doorway. I had a real stunner a few yrs ago but I had to let it go. It took up as much room as a recliner.
My new rule is all new plants must be diminutive. The smaller the better. Maddeningly though, those plants tend to need a ton of light. But a lot of them can fit on a decent size windowsill.
The golden rule: Do to others only that which you would have done to you.

I saw one last week for the same price at Lowes. It was still too much for me to buy it. Probably a good thing though. I don't have space for big plants either.
A friend who has since moved to the opposite coast had a number of glass shelves installed across the width of the sunny double window in her home office. They were only wide enough for little plants in small pots, so maybe 4" wide and spaced somewhere between 8 and 12" apart (can't quite recall). She fit a sizeable collection of succulents on those shelves!

I mentioned finding a couple Mandevilla on clearance a couple months ago. They are still in the store pots and were on the ground. When I brought them in, I finally got a good look and what did I find? The roots are strangling in jiffy pelllet mesh. This is starting to look like a trend. IDK why they bother potting them up? Just for the ballast?

Sigh.
If you could see how many plants probably got dumpstered here in the last couple days as frost and Xmas stock threatened them - it just doesn't pay for them to treat all plants as investments as many of us do. There are many consumers with a very fatalistic attitude about anything botany. 'It's gonna die sooner or later, I kill everything " I just wish there was better recycling for the barely used potting mix and pots, I had a friend at home depot once, she'd salvage lots of pots.
couple of HD staff were shuffling plants around madly on Tuesday.

Adorable! Putting it in the "pot holder" in the car is perfect scale to show us the size. Looks like a good one. When I see those, they are usually much smaller.

There was a smaller one in worse shape that might have been one dollar. But I felt fancy and sprung for this size. pot is maybe 4-5 inches? Of course, checkd Plantfiles comments and saw it should be easy to make new plants to share.
Gigi, you mentioned "surgery" for stem rot on your two (beautiful!) rescue plants. I see brown tips... will you just prune off the bad tips, or is there more involved?
I will cut off the brown tips until I get healthy stem. I actually did it already. One stem rot has travelled farther down than I expected. I will check again tomorrow to make sure it will not travel more. Good thing we still have sunny weather.
