$10 today for a ZZ raven plant double-potted with a decent cache pot. That doesn't feel like a clearance price but the tag really did say $19.99.

I got 5 clearance orchids today and 2 gorgeous orchid pots also on clearance.

Took cuttings from my clearance plants this summer. Now I have free plants from the clearance plants. They'll be my winter windowsill companions.

Depending on where one lives, some areas once in the trash any one can take it as it is trash.

I have not rescued trash for thirty years, I have a twenty foot tall Austrian Pine from that, but did used to go to small , usually a dozen or two plants outside on a metal stand, and some times grab a veggie that was all but kaput, for a bargain.

Such small displays, outside a store usually in a small plaza, are disappearing in the past five years.
I am supposing they got their plants from small private garden suppliers .
It could be such farms are dying also.
Used to be where one could get an odd-ball tomato or squash.

Unfortunately, "dumpster diving" here is illegal.

I wonder why. Has trash become so sacred that nobody is allowed to re-purpose it. Makes no sense to me.

Im guessing liability. Like why around here you can drown in 400 miles of county shoreline but they fence in a retention pond for a new development. Even low areas that only pond in extreme events.

Oh, yes, pond fencing here in Michigan, too. Like we're not surrounded by water.
But...dumpster diving & trash picking to your hearts content. Not illegal to do that.

Not illegal in MD, either, but the dumpster has to be on public property. Taking things out of the dumpster behind Home Depot would be tresspassing and therefore theft.

Most if not all Home Depot dumpsters are fully enclosed with a compactor so you can't access it anyways. That's how they make sure to keep people out.

Lowes today had a few decent offerings, for $7 a few four inch plants inclus8ng very attractive outer ceramic pots, but I'm not in the market for anything.
They had completely stripped all Xmas decorations and filled those shelves with cleaning and storage stuff. No messing with clearance Xmas there!

I need to hit a WM and see if there are any poinsettias left. I'd like to get one and plant it outside here at our Texas home.

I went to Lowe's today and not much of a clearance sale. So I got in looked around took some photos but did not buy anything.

I have not seen a "death rack" in Lowes for several years.
