I just picked up a 2cf bale of Lambert's Pro Mix at "Richardsons" here. it cost $18.99.
I go through one of these every year. This place is awesome! Mostly. think of a
very well stocked country Grocery store. Eats and meals. They also have 2 green houses.

Pro Mix is awesome potting mix, and that s a great price, Gita. I paid $13 .59 I think , today, for 2 cuft of Gardeners Gold Potting mix at Ace Hardware.
Plant it and they will come.

Lisa--

Pro Mix is what most all potted plants are planted in. Very loose, peat bases--and a lot of Perlite.
Almost anything potted you buy comes potted in Pro Mix.

Have never bought Pro Mix. I've been potting up baskets, window boxes, everything in Miracle Gro potting mix, 55 quarts for $9 at Costco. Rip off?

No, that's a good price. The ProMix bales are about equal to 2 of those, maybe a little more (hard to really estimate with "compressed" bales). I used to like the Miracle Gro mix but switched when they started doing the "moisture control" mix, which I just didn't have good results with.

I think a lot of the big nurseries make up their own potting mix, but it usually is similar to Pro Mix or Miracle Gro Mix. Sometimes you can get bulk potting mix at a good price if you chat up the nursery owner... ;-)

Actually, the real hazard in being together for a long time is when you THINK you know the other person so well you can practically read their mind... and then you make assumptions that turn out to be completely wrong! That happened to us a lot the first year we were married... we'd been friends for a dozen years, but we didn't know each other as well as we thought. LOL

Cleaning crew was just here... going to use the scrubber machine on the floor tomorrow and seal it (Armstrong "Shinekeeper" -- great stuff!). I was hoping the whole downstairs would be revitalized by the swap, but our handyman disappeared for over a month... he has resurfaced, and I'm glad to know he's OK, but I don't know if he'll be able to paint the entryway next week. And I'm going to make sure he isn't painting while everybody is here, as happened at the fall bulb pick-up. Still, I'm getting things somewhat in order inside and out, and anybody who knows me isn't expecting things to look like a magazine spread! Got a kid coming over tomorrow to help me deal with roses and raspberry prunings... I can use loppers but can't easily bag cuttings... too much risk of nicking my bad arm with a thorn.

I'm also just getting really jazzed about seeing everybody! Green Grin!

Yes, the food! I'll come up with some sort of main course... for some reason I'm thinking Italian... like a pasta bar, maybe? Maybe Jim will grill some Italian chicken for us... if not, I'll do a couple different meat sauces. We're due to make another big batch of marinara before then anyway. I've got pesto in the freezer still for making pesto butter, if anybody wants to bring some nice crusty bread...

DH makes a great crusty bread. He's offering to make two loaves Friday May 6. Psst: I think we should take him up on the offer.
