too funny. I have been wondering who this new Maid was, who had 'made' herself Rolling on the floor laughing so comfortable in such a short time. I had just asked Jill, who said, ya know, could that be coleup? and I thought, ahhhh, it all fits Green Grin!
Plant it and they will come.

Hilarious! You guys are *smart*! I was clueless until she told me a few days ago! I'm glad she has revealed herself--I was missing her, too.

Hilarious! Hilarious!

Wondering how long it would have taken me to figure you out, Coleup Maid. I think your extreme knowledge of every cultivar of plant known to man would have lead me to figuring you out eventually.

So...wear the disguise to the swap anyway, I would love to see it ! Thumbs up

You all are too funny and too sweet and very smart! Guess I'll hang up my 'cloak of invisibility' super power for a while and see how the runners of the mother strawberry plant so firmly rooted at DG MAFwill find fertile growing grounds here on the MAG at ATP! Thanks so much Catmint (and many others)for preparing a beautiful way and space for us transplants (hardly any 'shock' or interruption of the flow)

Plant it and they will come!

I'd say much more, but you all guessed it, I'm off to procure some plants! BBL

Gita, et al This was my first post on ATP as Mariposa Maid on Dec 21, 2015 on the Mutiney at DG thread in the Sandbox Forum

Hi all.
I am choosing to make my first post here on the darkest day of the year, because you all have held out a light to guide my way to the possibilities of finding again a home and a caring community with some familiar and friendly people I (and others) enjoyed at DG.

It is ironic that the most requested 'fix' is a simple way to get 'Back Home' at DG. Currently if one wanders or ventures from Home. one can not be assured of being able to get back to some starting or midway point in time or space.

For me, what has been done to the site is far less than the profound effect on the Community which has touched and been a part of so many of our lives. I ponder staying and putting real effort in to 'holding down the fort' but feel there will be few returnees and even fewer newbees and I just don't do well talking to myself! So, please may I tarry here whilst I sort things out?

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life."

Rick, when you click to look at the whole tradelist for the swap it should tell you at the top how many tix you have to spend. I think you see your ticket count when you click o your wishlist also. (go to tool, click on our swap, you sould find both options there)

btw, I lowered the "multiplier" the other day, so tickets per day aren't increasing quite as fast... everybody should have received a good number of tickets so far and I wanted to give some folks a chance to catch up entering items and claiming dibs.

Yep, there it was... 19.88 tickets. (Which part of the plant would be the .88, roots or leaves? Hilarious! )

Critter, how did you get your kerria to root? We've tried cuttings and divisions with no luck. I even put a branch under a rock for the winter. It's bright green and blooming, but no roots.

My kerria pretty much propagates itself now that it's established... new shoots appear several inches away from the main multi-trunked base, and I chop them out of the ground with my little shovel and pot them up. The little potted one I mentioned on my swap list was a pruned piece that I just stuck into a big pot with some other cuttings.

I'm not sure how the fractional tickets are generated... maybe we get extra tickets for actively trading or adding to our list? This is a new tool, and we're all still learning its quirks. If/when more people have used it, Dave may tweak it for us, but that's not a current priority for him -- especially with all the NGA stuff on his plate now!

tickets- What the heck? I'm officially clueless, and please let me stay that way. I'm not into getting a lot of plants this year. I am very happy to share, and will ask directly if I see something that tickles my fancy....
Plant it and they will come.

The swaps tool generates daily "tickets" to spend putting in "dibs" on plants from the list of what people have made available. It's just words.

Hey Jan! Honest to goodness I just thought of you yesterday as Wayne and I were heading up 301 on the Eastern Shore and I said we should go up to Jan and Jeff's sometime!! Some distances just don't seem so far when lovely folks like you are the destination! Same with these swaps!

I still do not know how to list my wants and haves. I would like to have a torch plant (tropical, edible 'kecombrang'-Indonesian name). I do not have much space in my garden, and not much space in my house. I have a few of hosta, I put the names of them when I planted them, but they all have disappeard. They start coming up now, some of them have big leaves and some of them smaller. I have one that is not so big and have 'blue' leaves. Are some of you interested? I can dig them out. How many for the big leaves and how many for the smaller plants? I know I am not very scientific and I am sort of vague, but that is what I have to offer. I also can provide lots of cuttings for Cereus, the nightblooming Queen, I believe they are called. They have never bloomed for me. I rescued them from a sale last year, no one wanted them, and I can cut some leaves that can be rooted. Let me know who wants them. And also the old-fashioned day lily that some people are looking for, and they are invasive, so I believe that they are not available in stores nor catalogs any longer. I still have some left if anyone is interested. They are edible. I gave a lot of them away last year, and they spread, I got them with the house. I am still interested in getting the Promix if available, 2 of them--for my roses which I have pruned. I have been trying to root them, but none of them survived, I have never succeeded in rooting them. What did I do wrong? What is the secret?

Hi Francine! I'd love a small start of your small blue hosta.

Check out our garden chat thread if you have a question about rooting roses. We have an expert rose gardener from the west coast who visits that thread. We should probably keep this thread for swap discussions only.

You can ask your question here: The thread "2016 Garden Chat and Photos" in Mid Atlantic Gardening forum
