Btw, I got in touch with Paul and he's not able to make it to the spring swap. Sad

He won't be able to make it to the Arboretum sale, either, where he usually works or volunteers. Apparently with his new job, Saturdays are pretty tough for him to get away. He sends his regards!

Francine, this looks like the plant you are talking about, kecombrang, also called torch ginger
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
I hope one appears for you. I have seen torch ginger grown for decoration but I'm not sure how common it is around here.
Plant it and they will come.

“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

Hm, good question about Holly and Ric. I think they're traveling now, but I thought they were still coming to the swap. I don't see them on the list of attendees, though. Jill?

You're right, they are missing from this thread! I did have it in my head that they were planning to come, but now I'm not sure. I'll check with them.

Francine, Ric has offered to pick up cheap Pro Mix in the past, but I'm really hesitant to ask him this year (even if he's coming) since he's had so much trouble with his hands. Maybe we'll just have to make a "run" up to the Lancaster nurseries... bet we could spend all the money we save on potting mix! LOL

News from DONNER!

Her surgery was last Tuesday, and it went well. She's tired but recovering nicely. Great news from the post-op pathology reports -- looks like she will not need radiation!

My fingers are crossed that she'll be up to visiting during the swap. Smiling

What are good nurseries in Lancaster? We're going to that area end of April. Staying at a B&B in Lititz.

Lisa, tree-mail Holly or Ric! I know there's a place Ric goes for Pro Mix, but don't remember the name. There's another nursery between Frederick & where they live, big like Behnke's.. I've been there, but do you think i can remember the name? noooo

Also, Buttoneer was planning a trip that fell through, with stops at Martin's Greenhouse and Black Creek nurseries...

When looking for more details on these places, I came across this article, detailing these and several more nursery stops: http://articles.philly.com/201...

So thrilled to hear about Donner. I'd told her that I'd even be happy to scoop her up if she felt up to it.

@tantefrancine , I completely understand about the missing plant markers. I [b]didp/b] have my hosta marked, but the squirrels made short work of that! I know what some of mine are based on location, but I have numerous pots that are no longer labelled. Except for the more memorable ones like Fire Island, Paradise Island, Krossa Regal, I have to wait until they get larger so that I can try to ID them again.

A year or so ago, I came across a site that let you enter things like leaf shape, coloration, veins pairs, etc and it would give you a couple of options as to what the plant was. I though I had it bookmarked, but can't find it. I'd love to find the site again. Going through books is not an easy task.

Rick, there's an app called "Like That Garden." You take a photo of a plant, then likely IDs pop up.

Er, maybe that site isn't so hot. Took a snap of flowering crabapple. According to Love That Garden, it was a cherry tree.

Well, at least it didn't think it was a Sequoia.
