As long as the rhizomes are still firm, or at least a piece of them is still firm, there's always a chance. With the spongy death, I was able to rescue some peanut sized portions of healthy tissue and some of them have even sprouted a green nub.

Lilli - one of my "potatoes" now has two increases! And it is one of my dragons - Puff The Magic! I was so unsure it would pull through. Unfortunately I still have many potatoes to inspect. Thumbs down

Yes if you could remind me, that would be great!!! I will keep it growing for you!!

I've had lots of 'potato' irises - in fact a French garden 'helper' one year cut off all the leaves from all the rhizomes. I thought they would all die on me, but they came back - so I don't think you should worry. Smiling

Well now that you ask, Les... First Avenue is two spots down from Plot Line. Two rear increases are in my main garden. This is the new spot by my deck

Tom, look at your Gingerbread Man, definitely not a goner.

Thanks Gabe, will do. I got to see it bloom last year and loved the subtly of it. It may have been unhappy with the drought this year.

I did, but only because squirrels decided to dig in my pot this summer TWICE. I actually lost two tiny increases from the squirrel bites. Had to disect and save.

@shizen Both Melodrama and Stitched Beauty are in the database but no pictures. Haven't checked any others. Stitched Beauty was hybridized here in Utah, but I don't know anyone who still has it.

My understanding for when one hybridizer registers and introduces for another the hybridizer and grower of the iris has not chosen to introduce but the other feels it is worthy and gets permission. At other times, the hybridizer has died or is incapacitated. Cooleys continued to work on Ben Hager's seedlings after he died but I think introduced as Ben Hager by Cooleys.

As far as getting seed from others, I don't think who made the cross is the important thing, but who grows and selects. So the person who did the crosses is not mentioned in the registration.

thank you charlotte, for the explanation, i forgot to add that the pics were not in our database....but, i was only interested in the names with the checks by the name. 😊 thank goodness, if it were up to me, i would order one of each ( haha Hilarious! ). but this tiny lot is crammed to its limit, i am afraid.

from here forward in order for me to get an iris, i have to cull one from my collection 😢. ☀️spots are at a premium, & unfortunately too few.

now to extend my bloming season i will be looking for more re. just joined the local iris society, and one of the members told me that most of them collect rebloomers exclusively. she said we were fortunate to have a really long growing season here, and most of the re's do well.

so for now, i have to be content til the catalogs come out for 2017. even after that, i will have to see how well my irises do. they will be all maiden blooms, in this garden.

i do have two must haves for next year. i think i might be able to order it from one place...at least i hope to. Sticking tongue out

then i get to drool with envy of all of your "i got a box" orders Drooling Drooling

but, first things first, i ordered my 'Large' bib for your spring bloom pictures.

Gabe, I got Gingerbread Man from Arlyn last year, and it has increased so much I had to share some. It didn't bloom though for some reason.

I'm glad I'm not the only one awaiting maiden blooms as my first irises next spring!! I bought two that were in bloom from a local nursery, but I lost both to rot, so I can't count those. I have about 175 planted and growing nicely that I'm watching for blooms next year. I have some other seedlings planted that I'm trying from seed. We shall see how my iris season is next spring! Crossing Fingers!
