Hi everyone. It's been awhile since I've been on the clematis forum. The seedling that I got last year had two buds on it a couple of weeks ago, but a bad hail storm last Wednesday shredded the plant and destroyed one of the buds. Well the surviving one opened somewhat yesterday. It's a little deformed because of the stress it's been through. I'll post a better photo later. I also got a pitcheri last week. Everyone's blooms are beautiful!

Here's a better picture. It's actually more dark purple than the photo is showing.

The color of your seedling bloom is quite striking Cameron! Sorry to hear about your bad weather, we're about to get severe storms here overnight. I hope my plants will be okay.

Here's a bloom from this evening, Miguel Viso.

They did fine Cameron, thanks for asking. We didn't get any hail, thank goodness. We're getting more rain and thunderstorms now, now, but theyre moving through quickly.

Here are a few blooms from this evening.

Fragrant Spring has most of its buds open, and has a wonderful scent. I didn't realize that it had also climbed over the evergreen shrubs.

Thanks Arlene, I'm thrilled with how well m. Fragrant Spring is doing. This clematis FS has grown tremendously in 1 year. I'm looking forward to seeing m. Mayleen with all of its buds open.

Nice photos Annette and Anna! The combination of the clematis and arbor is so classically beautiful. I do not know much about clematis yet, but hopefully will in time. I've never noticed a scent from the few that I have, but hadn't much thought about it until the mention of the fragrance on Fragrant Spring. Do clematis often have a scent, or is it an unusual characteristic?

Thanks Anna and Terri!

Beautiful Ville de Lyon Anna!

Terri, not all clematis are scented. My m. FS and m. Mayleen, and Chantilly are scented. The montana clematis also grow very large.

I saw nice healthy clematis at the local Home Depot today for $9.99 - some named, some not. The pots were smaller than nursery gallons but not by much. The checkout lines were horrendous. I have to keep reminding myself to stay away from those kind of stores on a Saturday afternoon, but I was up early and working on tax records for hours and hours and was about to scream. Thought I'd make a quick trip to town and check out Meadows Farms, Home Depot, and Tractor Supply and see what they had gotten in for some much needed relief for my sanity LOL. Anyway, I couldn't face those lines but I will go back early tomorrow morning before the crowds show up to get a few of those clematis. There was a pretty pink stripey one already in bloom that was a noid. Although I get frustrated with noids, I may get that one anyway and hope someone here can id it.

Walmart* had "City" of Lyon, normally called Ville de Lyon, in those green plastic bags as well, for less than $5.00 each.

*They were about $3.00 more for each bag of the identical same plant at Home Depot.

I stopped at the 2 local Home Depot's here in South Jersey ---- they don't carry Clematis Thumbs down so I'll check Walmart tomorrow Crossing Fingers!

Alan - Walmart is the better choice. Even three years ago it was only desperation that would see me going into a Walmart but it's become a big favorite for me now, maybe due to a big, new, store.

Terri - I'd never turn down a beautiful plant just because it's a NOID. Life is too short to be consumed by having a name for every plant. Clematises are so easy for determining pruning. Right now, a big flowered clem will be a class 2. Don't oversleep tomorrow!

Alan, I agree with Arlene, Walmart is an excellent inexpensive source for starter plants. I have a Jackmanii, Henryi, and HF Young, that I started in pots, and they're now planted in the garden and doing well. Henryi is now over 5 ft tall, and I'm looking forward to seeing it bloom this year.

Here are a few pics from today.

Vancouver Mystic Gem, this is its 1st bloom ever for me.
