Hurray! Hurray!
Shadow needs a sweater frequently because his little tummy is nearly bare. He 'helps' us by lifting each leg when we put it on him. He does the same for his harness. Dogs are so smart!

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Atta boy, George!

Yesterday morn I gave the Chi sisters a chicken wing part each. Guess they weren't hungry...as they didn't take it while I was watching. Few minutes later they were gone so I assumed they ate them.

Well, we have been limiting BabyK's food intake since she is losing her hour-glass figure so she was separated from the sisters at the time. Later, when she got back together with the sisters I heard a commotion in the patio. BabyK found one of the chicken wing parts and was eating it. There's a patch of dirt and grass in one corner of the patio and I think Essy had buried the wing there. Sighing! I know definitely that BabyK dug it up...she had dirt and grass debri under her paws' nails.

Good for BabyK! Green Grin!
I've noticed some dogs never bury their food, while others do it all the time. One of our dogs would bury all of his food under our sofa cushions if he couldn't get outside!

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I watched Essy make like she was burying a twist rawhide in the corner of her crate...she was like shoving imaginary dirt with her nose onto the rawhide. Rolling on the floor laughing

I had a breakthrough with George this morning.
First I put a warm sweater on Jack. George was watching.
Then I took the big comfy sweatshirt (that belongs to Jack )and showed it to George. He perked up, allowed me to lay it across his back and...here comes the good part..."helped" me to put his front leg into the sleeve. Hurray! We had a bit of trouble communicating how to put the other front leg in but he didn't bite, snarl, growl or get testy. I'll try again tomorrow with a camera close at hand just in case. Thumbs up

Lily had a chicken wing yesterday and will have one later today also. I have to put her in her kitchen ex pen and close the door. If not she will run thru the house with the chicken. Not what I want.

We walked for 3 1/2 miles today. We walked with my friend and her greyhounds. I was slow today, guess I was tired but Lily was marching along as usual.

Well, if they were like my dog they would try to hide them in the couch. Not exactly what I would be wanting. Blinking

Lily did eat today's chicken wing just a short time ago. She said it was tasty and wanted more. I was cutting up chick steak to make a stew and gave her a piece. She promptly ate that up also.

Cat nail trimming day here this morning... Kinja only tried to bite me twice, while I was trying to clip her funky extra-toe nail. She has extra toes on both front feet, and the right paw has a nail that grows from a kind of nonexistent toe between 2 of the other toes; years ago it actually grew around and started growing into the pad of her paw, had to take her to the vet for that one. Ever since then I've been very diligent about keeping it trimmed down (as you can imagine). Not too long ago, when I took the cats to the vet for shots the vet looked at their feet and asked me if I clip their nails; she then related an incident where someone had recently brought their cat it, which had been limping for several months. It had a nail that had grown around and WAY into one of the pads ... the vet was really pissed off that the poor cat had that going on for so long without being taken care of. Blinking

Then later on it was such a beautiful day that we took a ride along Lake Michigan, down to Marinette Wisconsin; on the way (in Menominee, MI), we saw a woman walking the cutest, tiny little Sheltie, wearing a backpack jacket (the dog, not the woman). Would have liked to have taken a photo of that! The lake is still wide open, but I have a feeling that with the below-zero temps we're supposed to have for a few days coming up. that's going to be changing. Oh well, by then it will be nearly mid January -- can't complain about that!

Greene, your mention of laying the sweatshirt on George's back made me laugh -- DH likes to tease our cat, Kinja, by laying a sock across her back -- which causes her to immediately collapse as though it was a brick or something. One more thing I need to get a photo -- or video -- of! Hilarious!

Sounds like nail trimming day went well.

It always astounds me that there are people that don't do much for their pets. Including basic things like looking at them and feeling for any problems.

I like to watch the TV vets shows such as Dr Pol and Dr Dee. See it on tV, people have no idea that the nails need trimming or poor cat or dog can't eat due to abscessed teeth.

You're a good pet mama Sandy. Thumbs up Continuing on that subject I've seen so many dogs in my life that had nails so long that it threw off their walking putting undue stress on the big pad & the toes were all curved up on top. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

I would think that it might be common sense to know the nails need trimming. Yes, they do wear themselves down if you walk the dog a lot on pavement but you still gotta check.

The dogs get their turn tomorrow... between the holidays and the cold that I had for 2 weeks, they are seriously in need of brushing (and yes, nail clipping too). Dogs, cats, horses ... and people too; gotta clip the nails.

Vets are the only ones who can clip Shadow's nails. He is ferocious if we try it. I've gotten major scars trying to do it myself. I bought nearly every type of clipper known to man. We would have 2 of us hold him and a third person would give it a try, but it never worked. He would still break away and scratch everyone to pieces. For some reason, the vet offices terrify him so much he just sits still and shakes while they do it.

I've had a few encounters over the years with cats that were freaked out and became all teeth and nails, Karen -- best to let the vet do it in that case, for sure!
