Rosie ... I found the best way to get past that ... yes, pun intended ... Big Grin ... is to use a straw. You don't even feel like you are chugging down the volume and you get it down fast and don't taste a thing.

I even do that with water when I feel like I am getting dehydrated. For some reason as I get older, I don't seem to get thirsty and I know I need to drink more water on hot days. Trying to drink enough water when you are not thirsty can be difficult, too. The straw works there, too.
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

Fever down today and chills stopped. Just the cough and cold now as far as I can tell. Boss said to stay home so they don't get sick. I readily agreed nodding nodding nodding If it keeps getting better I hope to plant the peonies this PM that came while I was gone.

Great news Ginny. Take it easy, you don't want a relapse.

Lyn, I used the straw & it did help but this stuff still has an icky after taste despite that. Oh well, it's all over now. And I have GOOD news! I was floored when the doc rescinded his statement of last year that I would need to do it each year for 3 years. I only had 5 - in *his* words "teeny weenie" polyps and barring a huge surprise on pathology; I'm back to a 5 year protocol! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! This is now the whine thread for me, or maybe a whinge thread like the Brits and Aussies say. I had a day from down below. After a month of nothing happening on the car, I start getting phone calls and texts before I even got my coffee in the cup this morning. They wanted this paper and that paper and 4 copies of everything and I had an eye doctor appt at 10 that I was not going to miss.

I know I used to handle multitasking better than this, I was freaking out driving along with texts dinging on my phone and calls coming in while I was talking to someone else. Why does it all have to happen RIGHT NOW when nothing at all happened for a month?

I ignored it all and went into the eye doctor. The progressive glasses that I spent way too much money for were horrible, I tried to wear them for a week and then just threw them on a table and left them there. I was hoping something was wrong with the prescription. No, the Dr. says that they are bad frames for progressives, the frames are too big. Then he says they need to have an adjustable nose thingy so they can be seated better. Why didn't anyone tell me this before I bought the glasses? I told him that I can barely stand anything on my face and I can not stand metal on glasses, no way. He says he will call the place across the street in the hospital that made them and they will fix them. I was so agitated and trying to read all the texts that had come in while I was in there that I just drove out of the parking lot. As I paid the guy I realized that i needed to go back and go to the glasses place and the pharmacy. I just couldn't do it. I was over the edge. Then I did something i've never done, I drove through a fast food place (Burger King) and bought an order of fries and an ice tea. I sat and ate the fries and drank the tea and answered the texts and oddly, i felt a lot better. Low blood sugar maybe?

Then I went back, found a place to park on the street. Well, there are street parking guys who kind of own the spots but they are cheaper than going back in the multi level parking lot. I went in, and after a half hour of listening to the glasses people, they were like most Mexicans very polite, very nice, very careful to not offend - but I realized that all of those flowery words could really be broken down to 'suck it up sweetheart'. So I left with my same old glasses that I hate and a wasted morning.

Then the car stuff. I had to go out to the dealership which is way out in the north of the city outside the ring road, get 4 copies of the bill of sale and temporary permit. Now they were texting me to meet the lawyer at the Fiscália which is this huge complex of state legal offices off the ring road. They kept texting me pictures of off ramps and buildings and I wanted to scream at them and say I can't look at this stuff and drive, don't you realize this. argh. finally someone sent me a link to google maps with a bookmark and I could hold my phone down in my lap so hopefully a cop wouldn't see me looking at it occasionally. I got there, realized I had been there twice before. I found the lawyer, we climbed a bunch of stairs and went to 2 offices and then back down the stairs to the cars, drove to another part of the complex where the state police office is, found the traffic division, and wouldn't you know by this time it was 5pm and the impound lot where my car is being held closes at 5pm and the release document that the police issue is only good for the day it is issued! So, chat with commander, blah blah blah, come back tomorrow morning. We go back to the first building where we climb all the stairs again and I pay my fine. Supposedly this is the only thing I will have to pay for this whole shebang, it was 1300 pesos which is about $70 at todays exchange rate, not bad and it was probably a ticket for distracted driving although I didn't bother to read it. So, finally I got to go to the supermarket and then go home. I'm beat, I'm not young anymore and today was proof positive of that. It was also a wake up that I have to remember to eat something before I leave the house.

I am so glad I'm in a small town and have Mexican friends who will run interference for me. Your day was similar to several I had in San Diego after my purse was stolen. I was really a basket case for at least a week after the theft, exacerbated by an animal control officer almost taking Inky Dink while I was in an endless DMV wait. Twitch, twitch.

My sickness early yesterday morning resulted in a weight loss of almost ten pounds. No wonder I was totally wiped out. I think I've now gained it all back, unfortunately. Today went much better. I have to remind myself it takes several weeks for me to recover from a trip to California. And cut myself some slack.

However, I fixed up a work area on my back patio where I have lots of shade and can listen to the TV and do most of my work sitting down. A great help. Got all my new tropical trees transferred into one gallon pots. They are all beautiful plants from a man in Hawaii who grows them all himself from seed. He and his wife then pack them beautifully and they all arrived in great shape. No signs of transplant shock. I do need to get shelves ready for them.

Neighbors Dana and Tom got back Tuesday. I visited Dana today - and their three little dogs.

I am so glad to be home in my "suburb" of the little town I live in. It is so quiet. Soon I must deal with the awful immigration man but not today.

hugs, katie

@extranjera, Jonna ...

I am sorry you had such a horrid day. Truly sorry.

(Note about glasses at bottom of post)

The description of your day is exactly why I do not do texts.

In fact, back in the day, long before they had cell phones and texts and you could only wear a pager, I refused to have a pager. I simply did not want to be that available. I still don't.

I am not strong on multi-tasking any more. It creates a kind of stress. If something fits in with the flow of things, that's fine, but I've gotten to the point where, if the multi-tasking is creating stress, I just don't want to play that way any more.

Recently, I had what I am calling my reality check that made me re-evaluate how I push myself to the point where I am almost crazy trying to meet impossible, self-imposed deadlines and don't make time for what is important in life. I am working on changing that because that is impacting the quality of my life.

As for your glasses ... you can purchase metal frames for glasses from Amazon with cable temples like these
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0158VYXDA/

and have the prescription filled at Costco.

I checked with the Costco up here and they said they would do it only with metal frames.

The cable temples are like a spring that wraps around your ear and holds the glasses in place. You are not limited to frames on Amazon. I just picked those as an example.

The also have a converter kit.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002A1JNSC/

I am not too sure how well they work.

I like the cable temple for my glasses because I don't have to constantly push my glasses up on my nose to have them in place ... Smiling

I hope you have a much better day tomorrow.

I just know there is another typo in there, but I can't find it ...

I had progressives too and there was no way...
to read..the"read" portion was way at the bottom...sitting against the edge of the glass.. (.frameless style)

I never considered the style I picked did not provide enough surface area to give it a decent space for "up close " sight as well as distance. Then I sat on the damn things. Now I get reading glasses from Amazon...and wing it with distance.

I suppose that won't always work for me but it works for now.

Jonna ..perhaps the blood glucose was low...or perhaps just sitting and doing one focused thing -- even if it was eating a fry...helped straighten up the jumble of sorting the tasks.

Why DOES everything seem to happen all at once??

There was an article in Consumers Reports quite some time ago about the high percentage of eyeglasses that are actually made incorrectly/don't conform to the prescription. And why in the world wouldn't they say something like "we can do it with that style, but it isn't the best for the progressive lenses" ?? Not to even mention all the issues with the car... Just one of those days you have to be happy is over and done with. I hope everything will be resolved soon... in the meantime: "Alcohol isn't the solution to life's problems... but, then again, neither is milk!" (Feel free to substitute the word "fries" for "alcohol" -- or whatever else seems to work for you! Smiling )

LOL, fries worked pretty well yesterday and today I ate a yogurt before I left. Not that things worked out any better today. This is such a bureaucratic nightmare. We arrive at the traffic division this morning at 9am and after handing over many copies of my passport and my visa and my bill of sale. They say that the temporary paper plate that I was driving on expired (probably yesterday) and now I need something from the agency that says it is registered and perhaps I need to pay a fine for not having current registration. I couldn't believe it. At first, I thought they were angling for a bribe but no, according to the lawyer they were not and we really do need to get additional paperwork from the agency. I'm dumb now. I almost don't even care or want the darn car back at this point although of course there is a lot of money in it.

I just came home. I will deal with the agency later. I'm over it all.
