Geez, Lyn -- definitely not right when you need to wear a jacket indoors!

I have to wonder why the thermostat is so close to the ceiling?

We have a bit of a problem this time of year because our thermostat is right next to our "entertainment center," on top of which I set my Christmas village up, on a styrofoam base. Of course, the TV is bellow that, and provides heat that affects the thermostat. So the actual room temp is quite a bit lower.

Ah, what we do in the name of decorating!

Our thermostat and sensor are on the 3rd floor in the hallway by the stairs where all of the warm air settles. In the winter, it causes the 2nd floor and bottom level to be freezing, because the warm air rises to the top of the stairs and makes it kick off well before the lower levels are warm, and in the summer when the AC is on, the AC runs forever trying to cool the highest level to a nice sleeping level and that in turn makes the 2nd and bottom floors cold as crap. Granted, the 2nd floor is basically completely open and has tile flooring throughout, so that doesn't help with the cold.

It's because the "head", the heater, is mounted near the ceiling and the thermostat is on top of the head.

No, it doesn't make sense to me, but actually a mini split system is an air conditioner and operates in a reverse mode to heat. Confused It's an incredibly sophisticated and economical system, but the instructions are lousy.

I think I want to get some of those fake electric fire logs installed in my wood insert, not to heat the room, but so that I can back up to it when I come in from outside to warm the backside of my lap ... Lyn, not sure if this will help you out googled for information on a mini split ac/heat system. Here are some professional tips on a mitsuishi, not sure what brand you have in your home.

Out thermostat was located on the second level in our last house and the sun shown thru the upper window and landed square on the thermostat. ..the air ran constantly until we moved it.

Jonna... that is nuts (that backwards supply and demand)

I will get that recipe for you. It is quick and very refreshing..no bacon tho...I suppose we could add it Rolling on the floor laughing

Thank you, Betty.

I did the Google thing, too. I have a Daikin system.

With the thermostat at the top of the unit, setting the temp at 68F doesn't quite work. The temp is 68F at the ceiling, but not in the room ... Sighing!

I think I am on the right track, tho'. I've got it warm enough so that I could take off my jacket .. Sticking tongue out I think locking the blades so that they push the air away from the hall is part of the answer. I'll just have to keep experimenting.

Unfortunately, there is only one place in the living room where they could hang the head, which is just above my sofa. To me, it's loud and I am uncomfortable with the air out put blowing right on me, so I had the fan set at the lowest level. In order to heat the air in the room, I can't do that. Maybe I'll turn the fan up when I am not in there.

I miss my wood fires, but my back is thanking me for getting a heater ... Smiling

I would love to meet the genius who designed my kitchen lighting. There is a huge fixture in the middle of the room, and no matter where I stood I would cast a shadow on whatever I was doing. DH solved my problem by installing under cabinet lighting, which we should have had in the first place. D'Oh!

Our kitchen had ridiculous lighting too. It had a fan with a mini light, and a couple of spot lights, and we couldn't see at all at night. My DH also installed under cabinet lights that are a blessing.

On the other hand, whoever designed the lighting in the kitchen in FL did a great job. We have under counter lights and also soffit lights which gives us great lighting no matter where we are. They are also on different switches.

I remember my Godmother saying years ago that whoever designed kitchens never had to cook a meal in one and never had to clean up after making a big meal.

My kitchen is a perfect example of that statement ... Glare I have to have a stool to reach anything in the upper cabinets and even in the lower cabinets. I keep a special towel to put on the floor and a flashlight under the kitchen sink because I have to empty out the front of the lower cabinets to get to the stuff in the back corner where most of the storage is located. I keep an "inventory" taped inside the cabinet doors so that I know where I put stuff .. Hilarious!

I also need that flashlight and inventory for the upper cupboards. Of course, there is not enough counter space. Just as well. Just more to clean up ... Sighing!

I did dedicate a upper cupboard in the laundry room for canned goods. I need a short ladder to get up into that cupboard. No, there is not much room for cleaning supplies in the laundry room either. Rolling my eyes.

Oh, well. I think part of that is because it is a small house ... Big Grin

My complaint has always been that everything is too short. Hilarious!

Ex. Having to sit down in my floor, or even lay at times to get to things in the very bottom. Breaking your back hunched over a way too short sink/counters trying to chop veggies, etc. Having to squat all the way down to get veggies off of the floor (bottom crisper drawer).

The inventory list on the door for the "in the back" items is a great idea!

Your place sounds like ours, James. Our place was built for a family of very short people. Every light switch is low. The counters are very low, and the most ridiculous of all is that the toilet seats were about 18 inches off the floor. We changed those! It looked like the house was built for kindergarteners. It has a nice sized commercial acre lot, so we bought it anyway.

I'd think probably not, with the really low toilets...

All of the counters seemed very low in our house when we bought it (26 years ago), too. DH is 6' and I'm 5'8" so not exceptionally tall, but when we finally remodeled the kitchen and bathrooms we put in higher counters and that was a huge improvement in terms of not having to bend over to cut vegetables up and such. The best thing we ever did in terms of remodeling was to have a lazy susan installed in a corner cabinet (lower) in the kitchen! The 2nd best remodeling thing was putting in higher toilets. The one thing I wish we had done but didn't was to extend the upper kitchen cabinets all the way to the ceiling; I'd have to use a step-stool to get to the top shelf, but the tops of the cabinets seem to consider their main purpose to be collecting greasy dust. Sandy, I'm loving the idea of carrying cabinets to the ceiling. I can't ever figure out what to put on top of them. Don't want dust catchers, and it's too high to easily water plants. I'd use them for things I only use once a year like Christmas dishes. I could climb on a ladder to get them.

I also have a corner cabinet that really could use the lazy Susan! They make things so much easier.

I have a lazy susan in two corners and I do love those and a deep pull out drawer for the pots and that is another favorite. My cabinets font go to top but they never get greasy or dusty. I get up there to dust about 3 times a year and there is hardly anything there. I think it is the SIP construction ..low dust
