Thanks Lindsey, and thanks for the info Ursula. I will check out that name you gave me.

Yes, the honohono does smell wonderful (sort of like raspberries), and the funny thing is...the word honohono means 'no scent', or 'no fragrance' in Hawaiian! The other, lighter color one smells wonderful too...I can't wait for mine to open this year!

THANKS Ursula, you are absolutely correct! Oddly, I DID have a ludisia discolor at some point, but I have no idea what happened to it! I also have no idea where I got the Ledebouria socialis! Strange...
Now it has to go on the wish list!

Glad we got the Ledebouria sociali thing worked out as your 'orchid' looks exactly like my Silver Quill. Smiling

My HonoHono is about to bloom. I go out and look every day but all I have are even bigger buds. Those flowers are going to be huge!

Hmmm, I'll have to stick my nose in those flowers - maybe when the wind dies down. It is honking out there and has been all day. Very nice weather for weeding and cleaning up, though. Cool and comfy.

Interestingly enough the name anosmum means no scent. Whoever named that plant had no nose?

And yes, welcome home, Elaine. Hope the grands are doing great!

Well, my little rescue noid Den.(oops...Onc.) has finally begun to bloom. Hurray! Might any of you recognize it? Or maybe have seen one before?
I haven't, but I've fallen in love! Lovey dubby This is the first bloom to open just a couple days ago.

I'm sorry, Ursula! Of course you are right! It's an Oncidium. My brain apparently wasn't connecting on all cylinders this morning! Hilarious! Not enough coffee, I guess! Whistling

Probably a Miltassia but I don't recognize it off the top of my head. The mostly white lip and red armbands should be easy to spot. I haven't time right now as I'm just back from church and have a concert at an ALF at 2:00 this afternoon.

Thinking about it for a minute, I'll bet it has some Peggy Ruth Carpenter in it.

Well whatever it is Tara...it is definitely beautiful!
A first time bloomer for me...I bought it in 2010 as a small seedling..it looks like it
bloomed for my sister while in foster care...Pot. Edith North 'Danny Adams'.

Thumb of 2016-04-17/sugarcane/9b2a58
this is actually a newer plant, now that I think of it. The first one bloomed and it was NOT Edith North 'Danny Adams'! I sent a photo to Reid Kawamoto with the story that I had bought the plant a few years earlier and could he ID it..as it was mislabeled. He did ID it as Husky Boy 'Romeo'...and talk about GREAT customer service..the next day I had an express package waiting for me with Edith North 'Danny Adams ' in it...he would not take Husky Boy 'Romeo' back or accept any payment for the new plant or shipping.

Lovely color on that one, Lindsey and what a great story/recommendation on Kawamoto's customer service. I've never ordered from them before, but will put some choices on my 'wish list' with the kids for Mother's day (when I usually receive at least one or two orchids of my choosing, bless 'em).

Tara, I have had one like your Onc. or Miltassia too but can't recall the name. I got mine at Trader Joe's so it's possible it didn't have a tag.

Oh joy! I didn't miss out entirely on the last of my Phaius. These are Phaius Microburst 'Dan Mendenhall' and the smaller stalk still has one bud to open so they'll be around a little while longer. (long stems plus wind = blurry photos, sorry!)

What gorgeous Phaius those are, Elaine! Do you remember where you got that one? You grow it in a pot , right?
One of my Lowe's 'bag babies' is in full bloom this morning..SLC. Jewel Box ‘Sheherazade'.
I got it this past fall and am amazed that it put out 2 spikes on it's first bloom.

That is beautiful Lindsey, I will look at Lowe's Baggie orchids differently from now on. I thought they would take years to bloom. All buds opened up on Yamadaara Redland Sunset

I checked Lowe's this week end but I didn't see a baggie of this Yamadaara.

I agree Gigi, I always looked at them like I'd be long gone before having a chance to see them in all their glory!
Might have to search them out now!

Good growing Lindsey! Thumbs up

Beautiful Phaius, Elaine!

Miltassia, huh!?! I'll have to do some research. It is a very pretty bloom, and an unusual one for me. I just love it!

Wonderful growing on those bag babies, Lindsey and Gigi. I do have a couple of bag babies, but they're both Vandas, so I am resigned to a bit of a wait to see them bloom.

Lindsey, that Phaius was $8 from First Orchids in Apopka. We really should schedule another Apopka trip at this time of year because I'm pretty sure Jim and I were there in April when we scored the Phaius. Yes, in fact found the pictures from that trip, April 10th 2013 where we met Laurel and Steve. Here's the Phaius and my haul on the table once I got home - see the huge Phaius plant at the back of the group?

Tara & Gigi..those bag babies are usually available in 2 sizes...tiny for around $6. and near blooming size, usually in round pots for $12.95. My sister actually got one in bud once! Gigi, thanks for keeping an eye out...your's is just GLORIOUS! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby
Elaine...I'm ready to go! I've been looking at the vendor list for the Redlands Show in Miami next month and starting to get excited about all that I might find there!
