Working on it Twit - it's still dark here! I'm hoping for a couple more nice days - showers in the forecast for the next couple of days.

Lynn, it looks like the only difference is slightly more upright growth on Wotan - oh well, I'm not going to hold anyone to it - I'll be happy to get a tentative ID just out of interest Rolling my eyes.

Linda, In answer to your question, that is not necessarily the deciding factor. Heuffelii have a common root, so the chicks emerge from that common root. Sometimes they will emerge from the bottom of the plant, but most of the time, the plant crown can split or the chick can emerge from other points.

To confuse the issue, there are semps that produce chicks on very, very short stolons, so their chicks can emerge from various places and look like it might be a heuffelii. A practiced eye can often tell the difference between a heuffelii or a sempervivum, but not always. Blinking

No way to get around it, you're just going to have to get some heuffelii so that you can "practice" your eye! Whistling I know its no fun, getting new plants just so you can learn about them, but sometimes the sacrifice for education is worth it. Rolling on the floor laughing

Rolling on the floor laughing Hurray! Rolling on the floor laughing Hurray! A very good reason to go purchase some heuffelii....but the container will definitely have to be marked. Hilarious! Sticking tongue out

Twit....thanks so much for addressing my question. I tip my hat to you.

Okay here's that list again:
'Aquarius' - grey-green backe/tipped red
'Melanheuff' - deep brown-red - silver edge
'Greenstone' - green- maroon tips/dark winter??
'Violet' - deep violet purple - trace of green
'Inferno' -large, maroon-red - green deep in centre

No descriptions held for these: 'Henri Correvon' , 'Mystique' , 'Aphrodite', 'Bandero', 'Blaze', 'Maduro', 'Torrid Zone'

'Gold Bug' - self explanatory, but 'Xanthoheuff' is also
yellow/gold.

No, not to much coffee Jacki. Just to much emotional stress.
Thank Charleen, I really like that one. It's easy to see how it got it's name. : )
I have had a difficult time with some of the heuffs trying to die on me because of the really dry weather.

Xanthoheuff stays bright green for most of its growth cycle. I have grown it for two years now and have never seen it color like pic #7.

Linda, glad to be of minor help. *Blush*

Lynn, most digital cameras these days have a mode that compensates for the shakes. That is the mode I use all the time. Smiling

They do twit? I will have to check that out, lately I really seem to need it. Maybe I should start using my tripod. What a bother it is though. When I go out it take a bunch of photos in just a few minutes. The tripod really slows things down.
Jacki, here is a great site for comparison pictures. You may have to just keep taking photos for a year to see the changes in each plant. http://www.succulents.jp/photo...
This site confirms what twit said about Xanthoheuff being bright green through most of it's stages. Hope you have high speed internet, this site can be slow to load because of all the pictures.

Please don't make me guess. It a beautiful collection of pics, however.

I have trouble telling some of mine apart, even though I look at them every day. They are all different, but change so much. I can usually tell Purple Haze, Mystique, Xanthoheuff, Sundancer and Mars apart when comparing them side by side, but it can be tricky if I do not have them side by side for Mars, Mystique and Purple Haze at some times of the year. Now that I've added a bunch more from purchases and trades, I'm being very careful with the tags.
