@MISSINGROSIE The same thing happened to DH. He had a pair of Florsheim shoes that he had bought several years ago and pulled them out of the closet one day. We went shopping and as we were coming back into the house, he told me I had tracked "dirt" into the house. Upon checking further, his brand new pair of shoes were disintegrating!

LOL! but Um... I'm all for making shoes that can decompose, but people need a chance to wear them for a while first!

I'm thinking some of it might be from having everything manufactured overseas. Take mens tee shirts for example. One brand that we have bought for years always stood up well through multiple washings, etc., and even when they were used as rags, they were still sturdy. Now after a few washings, DH's tee shirts look like he has been the victim of a shotgun shooting! They develop holes, stretch out of shape and are worthless after awhile. Thumbs down

I noticed the immediate graying of some brands ..Rakph L greys, T. Hillfiger remains white ( but shrinks up ) ..

You are right I think. Dansko was all produced in Europe...then about -- well not sure when ..greater than 5 years ago ....the shoes said made in China.

A big disappointment.

My DH bought a pair of Florsheim shoes just before we got married. They were some very well-made shoes; lasted longer than the marriage. Whistling

DH had been buying Florsheims beginning back in the 70s, and they always gave him good service. He wore them to work every day and replaced them when they wore out but these last ones just fell apart the first time he wore them.

I bought some workboots years ago, but lacing them up was always a pain. You know the type. Beige ripple bottoms/tan uppers. I finally found some of the same in shoe style. I've worn them so often, they are as comfortable as walking shoes now.

They have gotten me through snow and rain, mud and dust. 5 years and the arches are solid, still comfortable to wear. Made in Korea, LOL!

You wear those garden shoes often enough and after some time they are shaped to your feet. If I am going to be out in the yard for a few hours, they end up more comfortable than walking shoes.

purpleinopp said:Oh man, they're sooo dirty, ugly, really beat-up slip-on sandals that I wear to dig holes & water plants, repot plants, while camping and at the beach, anything that might get "good" shoes dirty. The stitching holding the tip of the right shoe is all gone, so it looks like a clown shoe sticking way out past my toes. I don't deal with the public, but I might have to run across the street to the courthouse for something. I should have realized I was too comfortable when I got in my car. Oops! Luckily I'm only here until noon.

I am NOT in favor of shoes that decompose. I want mine to last longer than *I* do. Smiling

I just like mine "worn to fit".

It's getting bad. I figure as long as I'm seen in public in my dirty garden shoes, I might as well have dirty garden clothes to match! Shrug!

A friend was making Thanks giving Dinner. She has three kids, and this year was her first empty nest Thanksgiving, so she was especially determined to make the holiday perfect, and very excited to have all three kids back in the house.

This lady does not even have a glass of wine now and then, but on Thanksgiving, she always has two screwdrivers, drank slowly while making the big meal. This year she started a little early, celebrating the kids all being home.

Well, she is half way thru her second drink, just getting the turkey in the oven, and the booze hits her, and she is smashed. Embarrassed, slurring her words and $#i! faced and disappointed in herself. She has to lie down.

"Oh man, mom had two drinks." The boys finally admit every other Thanks giving when those boys were living at home she was just drinking mostly water and orange juice, because the vodka had been raided by the kids, and replaced with water for years, and years. She just has one screwdriver on Turkey day now!

Brats!! Hilarious!

The cure is a "gin buck". Half ounce of gin for taste, 1 oz of lemon juice, and fill the tall glass with with ice and gingerale. Causes sobriety every time... Hurray!
