Ha ha, another embarrassing story from my working at Kmart days. One day I decided I would dress nice for work and wear high heels and a dress.
I was walking along the cafeteria where a large group of senior citizens were having a meal when I lost my footing and fell flat on my back and my
very fluffy skirt part of my dress flew all the way up my waist and exposed me! I was dazed and looked up at all these grandmothery and grand-fathery
people looking down at me and saying, "oh my honey, are you ok?" I never ever wore heels again.

Seems like I am reliving my past life here. Especially with the mismatched shoes and the wearing of high heels. More than once the heels broke in half or just came apart. Ughhh. As a sneaker wearer, so focused on getting out of the house, never notice that the soles, heels or arch supports are all a different thickness until I am way across town. Then I look down and feel off balanced suddenly. Sighing!

It happened again! Yard shoes are kept at the back door , work shoes at the front.Went outside in the morning to do some gardening. Started to rain. Quickly stepped in the front door of course removed my shoes. Getting ready for work that night. I slipped on my shoes at the door in the dark as usual. Got to work noticed the difference. They are the same shoes as the good ones , just old and sorry looking. I put some tape around the loose part of soul. Of course one of my patients noticed! I had to explain they were my gardening shoes. On my next visit that night she inquired "What kind of gardening do you do?" It was a great conversation starter. Never know where you will meet a fellow gardener! LOL

Exactly that happened to someone in the ancient "Dumpster-Diving Diva" threads in DG.

The DD Divas were discussing their techniques for jumping in and out of dumpsters at big box stores to rescue discarded plants. It was important to wear old clothes since they were, after all, wading through rubbish to excavate the plants.

One lady was hard at work with her stool or short folding ladder pulled into the dumpster with her (for getting back out).

She saw a guy walking straight towards her, and worried that it was a security guard about to arrest her for trespass, meddling with dumpsters, plant-napping or stealing trash without a permit.

Instead he just gave her an understanding smile, handed her a dollar and walked away again before she could think up a story.

It took her a long time to figure out that he thought she was homeless.

I finally threw these away today. The stitching holding the tip together of the right shoe gave out early this spring. The surface that my feet step on was all shredded and torn, and the smell was not good. These shoes have been in the ocean, lake, have dug holes, pulled weeds, painted the front porch (hence the light colored spots,) been left out in the rain, and are the ones I accidentally wore to work at the beginning of this discussion - but luckily that was before they got paint on them. I think I got my $$s' worth!

Yes, you did get your monies worth out of those shoes. Just think that if you had given them away or donated them, its called recycled. You used them to the very last stich. and recycled them yourself. Good for you!
I have a few items that are done for also.

I think since they gave so much to the garden, you should bury them there...

Do we all shop at the same shoe store Confused

Shhhhh....don't tell my former bosses at Neiman-Marcus but this is what I really wear when I'm not being forced by them to parade around in $700.00 designer 'loaner' pumps. nodding

These used to be causal 'kicks' that I wore in Ohio to just put on with shorts and t-s for back yard BBQ's, quick runs to the grocery store, mail box, taking the dog for a walk, etc. Then they became the one's I'd wear around the back yard in Ohio to do some gardening or when I washed the car.

Then they became the ones I took to the beach. Salt water works some wonders! .

Then years later for some bizarre reason I dragged them with me to AZ. Wore them to go to the mailbox, and hang out on the back patio and walk the dog or putz around in the garage. .

Now 14 years from original purchase *Blush* all they do is sit on the back patio. I put them on so my feet don't get dusty and dirty (kind of counterproductive from the looks of them) or put on so I don't have to stand in my bare feet in the back yard rocks while I hose the tree down.

They're presently not fit to walk more than 20 feet in Rolling on the floor laughing . I plan on hanging onto them until they fall apart. Truly amazing what rain, dust and 118 degree heat can do to shoes.

I'm going to see how long they hold up. I may just put them on and pan handle until I have money for a new pair. :hurray:

Ok...... I need to know where you ladies shop for sandals that last this long. I hate shopping. If I could find duds that lasted that long....whooowhooo.... If only they sold clothes that fit and lasted a long time in garden centers Rolling my eyes.
