Or a short line underneath that says:

(International Gardeners Welcome, Too!)

We should get a Lot more traffic with this name change. Thumbs up

The charter of the NGA, and the mission that we are dedicated to continuing, is to educate and encourage gardening in the US.
There is a vast difference in the gardening challenges right here in the US- it is difficult enough to run a website, operate a podcast, and run a database for *US* specific information- vastly different from coast to coast. We are not prepared to be able to educate and encourage world-wide. That's simply not feasible.

It's not about inclusion/exclusion. It is about practicality. One organization simply cannot be familiar with world-wide growing conditions/pests/diseases. Very different from dealing with other world-wide organizations who aren't working to help people grow things Smiling

That said, our community is certainly worldwide- it always has been, and there's no reason why it won't continue to be so.

I'm not sure it's that simple. From what I gather, Dave and Trish have bought a web domain. That costs money. If you are going to change the name of a domain for which you have paid probably a lot of money for, that would defeat the purpose of having paid out money as you may as well have just changed the name of ATP without the added cost.

It is with tremendous excitement that we announce the next milestone for us: we have acquired the National Gardening Association, including its name, history, mission, trademarks and websites.

Am I correct Dave?

My opinion is this is Dave and Trish's site... the decision to continue on with NGA has been made so please stop asking him to change it.

Dave, we have already had new people come to both Purslane and Garden Art forums! Hurray! Hurray!

I must confess I really feel like an outstander now with the name change, it makes me feel sad as I have invested so much of my time doing my best to contribute to the plant database, ATP (All Things Plants) was such a nice name sounding not restricted to one particular country, just our whole dear planet Earth.
You cannot get around the name "national", it means what it means!

Just signed on this afternoon and wow, love the new name. Hurray!

Regarding the national/international question...
When the site was named "All Things Plants", Dave and Trish allowed us to talk about plants...and almost any other subject under the sun and moon with just a few exceptions (religion, politics, etc.)...the Whitinger family provided us a place to learn, to share, to meet new friends. We were not limited before and moving forward we will not be limited just because of a name change. (That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.) I tip my hat to you.

Put another way...
Once upon a time in a faraway place there was a plant-related site named Dave's Garden; it had Dave at the helm and all was right with the world. Over time some changes were made and throughout it all the name remained the same.
So ask yourself - would you rather be choosy about the name of this site? or would you rather keep Dave and Trish?

Since this "is the #1 most trafficked gardening site on the internet that gets 4 times as many visitors each year than ATP does," I believe anyone not quite thinking this will be just fine as is, take some time and see. I do believe it will be business as usual and more of it too. I really love the name All Things Plants and was a little disappointed to hear that the name would change but so glad to hear that the site and content wouldn't change.

If I lived in Europe, Australia, Canada or somewhere else in the world and found the National Gardening Assn./Garden.org website, the name or location of it's headquarters wouldn't offend me because the site is geared to gardening and plants which is my interest ... but that's just me.

Let's all go buy a new plant to celebrate the community of gardeners, no matter where they live.
I'll take Purslane, please.

I feel sure that when negotiating for the rights to all the articles and videos etc. that came with the deal, preserving the name and the forty year history that goes with was one of the many legal considerations that had to be taken into account.

If I could speak and read the Chinese language, or any other language for that matter, I would certainly become a member of their "National" gardening site as well. Likewise, those in other countries who can understand and read the English language are welcome to become members of this "National Gardening Association." Smiling Group hug

I would focus in on the USDA and AHS zoning given for the different regions that would be the same or close to my zone. Like the CONUS, there are different zones for different areas.

This is happening to me too.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown
