I really like Have A Goodun. Another iris with big fat brown beards.

It is pinker on opening, then becomes more of a brown shade.

I had Kid Power bloom in two locations this spring and it went to town.

Fantastic beards!

I am confused about horns and the like. My Unfinished Business sometimes blooms with long girly horns and some blooms with very small or no horns. I had the same thing with one golden one (NOID) where the first bloom had long stiff horns, the next bloom a very small one and the last bloom had no horns whatsoever. I never knew Conjuration had horns until getting on this sight. My one that is said to be Concertina has no horns today on the first blooms.
Is this what usually happens with horns?

Sometimes they don't bloom with horns. That seems to happen more with iris that have short horns. That said, Petal Pushers bloomed with no horns for me, but often has very long horns.

Some iris, like Kid Power, are chosen by the hybridizer because they consistently grow horns. Other iris, like Thornbird, run from short horns to horns with spoons on the end. I think their growth is affected by weather stress and the such, so you will get a gamit like you have with Unfinished Business of short to long. Some people say too that the best horns and flounces are produced in the first blooms each year. Not sure if that is true or not. Thornbird is much less likely to have spoons on the later blooms, but Kid Power had huge beards to the very last bloom.

Don't know about all space-agers -- but the ones that I have have a tendency to present different horns on different blooms. I first noticed it on Thornbird -- some blossoms having a long swoopy horn, others having hardly no horn at all.

This year I became more aware of it with Mesmerizer. She has great big flounces. Except for the blooms that don't. I don't know why. Shrug!

Interesting, Leslie. When Mesmerizer's first blooms opened -- they did indeed have lovely flounces. The blooms that followed did not. Except then they came back again with later blooms. It's so capricious!!

I noticed that, too, on some of the blooms. Spoons or horns, sometimes both or none.

Do you want long fuzzy beards or beards with horns? I prefer Caribbean Cruise myself, but....

I was leaning towards CC. Like the the look of the orange beard with the blue horns off the end.... then there is Kid Power that looks awesome in your pics. I did get Awesome Alex from Tom last summer.

I really enjoyed Maypearl this year. I love that the veining on the falls continues onto the flounces. It was just a happy looking iris for me.

Many of Burseen's space agers have vertical falls. I thought this next pic gives an interesting perspective.

Well, I ended up getting Tobacco Chew on an ebay auction for $6.25. I have ordered from her in the past, so I know I will get a good plant....along with a few other wins. Casino Cruiser was a little over my bid cutoff point... so maybe if she relists....next time Shrug!
