@ kidfishing, love the first one!

We have had downpours here in eastern NC since last night. These two seedlings have help up very well.

A seedling or flower for that matter, that can handle a southern downpour is impressive in its own right. I tip my hat to you.

Terry - Those are lovely!!!

Angela - I like that second one! Who are it's parents?

Not much yet in the way of seedling blooms. One of my favorites is this deep purple with near-white ruffles/teeth. The foliage on it this Spring/Summer looks pretty good! (Fall is usually the worst months.)

Hi, thanks, I really like the second one too. It's parents are Waves of Joy x Debra Jorgensen

I love how you track the pedigree. I am a visual learner and that helps so much to see what the parent is contributing. I used to think the pod parent had more influence. But I really see the band of God save the queen coming thru but the overall shape from Face the stars. Gorgeous seedling!!! Love your pedigree chart. That's genius. Amazing how much the grandparents even influence a seedling too. Hurray!

Angela - I agree. I am a visual person, too, and making these charts is a real eye-opener for me!

I have several seedlings of Galaxy Explosion x Lily Munster (whom I received seeds from Cindy - hemlady):

And this is the sibling Pedigree Chart. In the case of this chart, there are so many unknown variables, that the chart (to me) is not as helpful. Wished I knew what the unknown grandparent seedlings were created from. :

This is a great hunk of the forum. All those seedlings are impressive! @Becky, what program are you using to create the pedigree charts? They're awesome!

Fred - Love your newest photos of seedling blooms! It is impossible for me to pick a favorite. Lovey dubby

Barbalee - I agree, this is my favorite thread(s) topics on the daylily forum - the seedling blooms! It boggles the mind what can be created by crossing cultivars and seedlings.

The program I use to make the Pedigree Charts is Scrapbook Factory Deluxe Version 5.0 : http://www.novadevelopment.com... I believe that it is actually on sale (today?). It is not a downloadable program though and I don't know if it works on the newer operating systems (I have Windows 7). It is a program I love and use all the time which I've had for a number of years. Included with the program are templates including Family Tree templates (of which I used one as a base to create the Pedigree Charts for my daylily seedlings). It's fully customizable. The software comes in CD form, so one would need a CD reader on their computer.

You would think someone would come up with a computer software program that creates Pedigree Charts which are similar to what I have created. I am sure such software would sell if it could be used for more than just plants. I can customize the program to create a Family Tree or Pedigree Chart for pretty much anything. And it could easily be sold as a downloadable program without all the bells and whistles that this particular program has.

I saw Maryott's Pedigree Charts on their website several years ago and that is where I got the idea to create my own. I tried numerous times to contact Maryott's Daylilies to find out what program they use and never got a response. I suspect that it is a custom program designed exclusively for them.

Sorry if I may go off-topic, there's a software for making any type of charts. XMind. There's one version that's free. Maybe it could be of help. I never tried it to make pedigree charts but I don't think it would be too difficult. I use Plantstep Flower software and it lets you have three levels of pedigree

Sabrina - Where is the Plantstep Flower Pedigree Charts located in the software. I had no idea that Plantstep now offers such an option. Can it be transferred to a .jpg file or do you have to do a screen save to crop it and save it to .jpg? VERY interesting!!! Thanks for sharing that info.

I found where the pedigree chart is in Plantstep. But unfortunately, I don't think it makes a pedigree chart for seedlings, does it?

@beckygardener - you should enter the info for each seedlings in the software. the pics too.
You can code any seedling as if it were a daylily (there's a function from seedlings "move to daylily", also). That's what I would do.

Thank You! Do you do a screen save, crop it in "Paint" or "Snipping Tool", and then save it to a jpg file?

Sorry to get a little off topic here, but this may be useful tools for seedlings.

Sorry Becky, crossposted. I never save the charts and I think the software doesn't allow them to be printed or exported. You can check XMind it lets you export images (in paid version you can export PDFs too). I think it's similar to what you're doing now, but it can be useful for someone that doesn't want to invest some money in a paid software. Could maybe this go into a new thread?
