I was waiting for some sunshine for picture taking, it seems I need to wait to Sunday.
So, here we are on another cloudy day. At least it didn't rain, yet!
My larger plant of the alba Schomburgkia /Laelia superbiens has now both spikes pretty much open. I had to tilt the hanging plants more and more to allow for the 4 foot or so spikes to fit under the ceiling. I used the step stool to take pictures.
This tiny Brassokeria Mayan Spirit blooms again from an old spike in Barkeria fashion.
And Ctna Why Not is one of those Cattleyas which blooms year around as soon as a new growth makes its appearance, similar to Hoku Gem. I would rank it amongst the easiest of the Cattleyas to grow and flower, along with Pot. Hoku Gem. ( I know, old names....)
Ursula, your alba Schomburgkia /Laelia superbiens is drop dead gorgeous! Looks like you'll soon need a longer hook to hang it from! Hoku Gem is one of my all time favorites and I'm on the hunt to get another one to replace the last one..I think Kathy got it. Maybe I'll get lucky in Miami next weekend at the Redlands show...fingers crossed!
Ursula, that is one fine looking superbiens. I love it!
Brenda, welcome back and thanks for sharing your beautiful Krull's Scarlet. It's special.
3 inches of rain here yesterday and I was out in it all day. Only one more talk until summer break. I'm working the MG desk tomorrow as the agent is on vacation.

I just diagnosed Anthracnose on some guys guava tree. I don't think that is what he wanted to hear. I'm at the half way mark and should go find some lunch.

Yes, Brenda...it's a giant show 13-15th. Google it and you can see the list of vendors.
Blooming for the first time after sulking for 8 months...I bought it with 7 sheaths and they ALL blasted.. Now there are 3 spikes that I can see and this just opened late yesterday.

What a gorgeous plant, Lindsey. Looks like you have some more sheaths starting up, too. It's forgiven you for putting it outside in Florida in September after it lived a sheltered life in a temp-controlled greenhouse.
Jim, I was sitting here at my desk reading the destructions on a new fungicide I got off Amazon. It's called Actinovate and it's rated organic and for use on edibles. It doesn't specifically list Anthracnose, but it DOES list Pythium and Phytopthora so I'm totally giving my orchids a dose of it. Just waiting on my spreader/sticker stuff to arrive now.
I think I'm going to try it on my infernal fig tree, too. Every year it sets fruit, then loses all its leaves in the middle of summer to rusty fungus so the figs never get ripe. Same thing happens in the fall again, even this year when it never got cold enough to put the tree into dormancy until December, but the figs never ripened because the leaves were destroyed by rust. If I can't get this tree to produce fruit this year, I'm getting rid of it!
edited to add - Ken, fuschia pink is much brighter and darker than that. Shell pink is more like it.
